Pregnant- Census Question

Ok, please help here. I feel silly, but I want to make sure I fill in the census form correctly. I'm pregnant and due in May, so technically the baby is not a part of our family YET. Does that mean I do NOT check the "children" box in question #2? What is your interpretation? I called the help line, but they had no info to help.

Thanks!
T.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I didn't think I should count them, I just wanted to make sure others felt that way too. There really should be clearer info about this for pregnant women.

This not open to interpretation. according to Census guideline you only include children who are born and live with you on 4/1/2010.

Congrats...

I would say don't include the baby because they won't be living there on 4/1. Congrats by they way.

Good question. I'm glad you asked this because I'm delivering in April and didn't even think about this. I probably wouldn't have included my new baby...

I was pregnant last census.....sadly, that baby "dont count!!" Not til he/she is in "the world" so to speak. I wonder why that is? Makes ya wonder!!!

Mag :)

EDIT: This is not an opinion question....it has nothing to do with taxes or April. You cant check the box while the kid is "on the inside"..... unless you are filling out the census while giving birth, you cant check the box!!!

I would say yes! Your tiny-tot will be here this year and you'll claim him/her on your taxes this year so go for it! I'm sure they factor in some percentage for this type of thing (like if you check boy and have a girl kind of thing)...

Congrats and good luck!

This is a census- 10 year census at that- you won't be counted on your lil one until 10 years from now. I would interpret that if I want my child included in what the school system/public libraries/stores/teachers needed ratio then I would put that 1 child down-
In all actuality- this is a living, breathing human being- they are person/child and who cares if this is just as of 4/1/2010....I would include that one child.

My understanding is the person's in your home as of April 1, 2010, so you wouldn't check the children's box.

I won't not count the baby, they are asking for the number of people living in your home as of April 1st. It has nothing to do with taxes and you are not supposed to anticipate people living in your home this year, just who is actually living there on April 1.
