Pregnant and Seeing Spots

I'm just about 15 weeks pregnant, and twice now I've had little episodes where I see spots. The first happened in the evening when I was putting my son to bed. It's kind of like when you look at a light or the window or something and then look away, how you can still see the outline of it. It's kind of like that, only it moves a little, like a kaleidoscope. The first time it happened, I didn't feel well and felt like I was going to pass out or something. I ate an apple and then I felt better. But it happened again this morning - the only difference was I never felt bad. I felt perfectly fine, just saw the kaleidoscope spots. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I know your eyes can go thru changes during pregnancy, but is this normal?

EDIT: Thanks for your responses so far! It's nice to know I'm not the only one. To answer some of the questions: Yes, I get migraines, and I have had LOTS of headaches with this pregnancy. Not necessarily migraines, just annoying headaches - like 3-5 a week! I have never had problems with sugar levels. My blood work's been normal so far, the only problem I've had is a bladder infection. I think I will call my doctor just to check. Thanks mamas!

What can I do next?

this happens with me too when I am pregnant, I need to ask my doctor because I have wondered about it. I was very hungry one day and waited too long to eat and it was the worst spell I had, it finally went away about 15 minutes after I ate. It never happens when i am not pregnant. It is very troublesome and annoying when it happens!

That happened to me too.....and my scalp would go numb during this. I think its blood supply running to where the body think it needs it more. abdomen. Thats why the preggos have to take it easy.

I never followed those rules, the nesting urge was far too powerful.

I don't know what could be causing it but in all the books and pamphlets on pregnancy that I have read they all say that if you see spots you should call your doctor immediately... So I suggest calling your doctor.

I saw spots my first pregnancy. My second , my third, my fourth, my fifth, and my sixth. My nurse told me that it was an iron deficiency when I had my first. She actually asked me if I was seeing them before I told her. It happens to me even when I am not pregnant. It seems like it happens more when I am really tired, not eating right or I am stressed a bit. So you can just know that its a lot of times it happens to me! ha ha.. If its not one thing its another. I take my vitamins to try to keep them away and sleep well. It does work. So just take care of yourself and sleep a lot and make sure you take your vitamins. You can ask your doctor about it of course. :)

I always think that the spots look little baby masquitos but they do not squirm. ;)

Hum, I'm wondering if your sugar levels are off? Have you had any problems with sugar in the past?

I am not pregnant but I also have these. I have migraines... do you? The eye specialist said they are common in someone who has migraines. However, you should probably call the nurse and let her know what is going on.

I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia right around my due date, and after doing some research on the subject, I believe vision changes can be a symptom of that. However, pre-eclampsia is something they screen for in your monthly checks, but if you just recently started having this happen, I'd definitely call your doctor and see if they feel you should be seen. May be nothing, just another one of those weird things that happens when a baby takes over our body, but I'd want to see if pre-eclampsia could be a factor.

I swear I could have written this myself...

I'm 32 wks preggo at this time..and I honestly have been see the SAME spots off and on for weeks now. I know I do not have any pregnancy complications. I've been checked.

I was told by a Dr. with my 1st pregnancy that its normal to see these "spots" and they aren't the same as what you can have happen during pre-eclampsia.

They actually can be caused by vitamin deficiency. Or so I've been told :)
BUT I would still check with your Dr. Just incase

This happened to me too. It was an aura I would get before a migraine.

But you should also make sure it is not your blood pressure.
