Pregnant and ALWAYS HUNGRY

Mamas! We had our first ultrasound today and saw our beautiful baby's heartbeat!! We are so excited, even though I'm not as far along as I thought (almost 8 weeks instead of almost 10). Anyway, there's one thing that perplexes me...I am CONSTANTLY hungry, and I can't be satiated! I have realized that if I'm too full, I'm queasy, and if my stomach is empty, I'm queasy. But no matter how much I eat, my tummy grumbles and I need more. I've been eating SO much fruit, some veggies, and some carbs, like crackers and tortillas, and some protein, but I feel like none of those things really satisfy my hunger. At the OB's office a few hours ago, I have actually LOST 5 pounds since I got pregnant too, which seems nuts because I'm always eating to settle my stomach. I can't seem to find anything that makes me feel better or full. Any ideas? Have you experienced this? I'm tired of eating all the time!

What can I do next?

I just went through this. I was constantly hungry, and if I didn't eat I would be sick. I ate anything that I had a craving for, and this time the cravings were different than ever before, from salad and vegetables and fruits to eggs and fried chicken. Around 14 weeks the nausea went away and I no longer have the hunger. So it will fade.

yup! sound just like I was! (my son is 3 weeks old). The good news is that it does slow down as the pregnancy goes on. I second the idea of eating more protein, it may help you fee full longer. Also the queasiness should pass once you are into you 2nd trimester, then you may notice you aren't as hungry. Sounds like you are doing everything else you can, hang in there, it will pass! And don't feel bad about eating, if you are hungry EAT!

One note about lunchmeat, make sure you heat any lunch meat. Cold lunch meat is not recommended while pregnant due to the risk of food bacteria.

It will slow down at the end of the first trimester. Protein will keep you full longer and is really good for the baby. Try cheese or eggs. I ate a lot of greek yoghurt which has extra protein. Try nuts too especially almonds and add it to the yoghurt. They have omega 3's in them. Also good for baby. In the first trimester it is common to need to eat lots of small meals so you don't get too full or too hungry. Then again in the 3rd trimester when you have no room for food you will have to do it again. Also being thirsty can feel like you are hungry. SO drink lots of water.
Congrats.

Try more protein. But honestly, if you're pregnant and hungry, eat. Enjoy it while it lasts : )

I ate a steady diet of tacos, fried chicken and chinese food and Sunday dinner with family. I could not eat breakfast food for some reason. I walked every day about 3 miles....if not, I think I would have been really heavy. I gained 22 pounds and the day after my boy was born, I was almost back to my normal weight....he weighed 8 pounds.

I don't know if this makes you feel better....but I just loved taco (the best)!

Blessings.....

My first trimester was constant cravings for raw veggies and fruits. My usual sweet tooth was gone. I'm usually one to taste a piece of cake or cookies if they are around, but I still seem to have an aversion to them tho my candy/chocolate tooth is back.

I lost 8 lbs the first trimester and have yet to gain anything. I'm 26 weeks now... but I'm actually trying not to gain weight since I was a bit overweight before the pregnancy and the baby has lots of fat stores to take from :) Thankfully my Midwife agrees that it's all good as long as I'm not starving myself and eating at least a certain amount of calories a day.

I was like that too - try FIBER. Fiber breads, bananas, peanut butter or sun butter, nuts and lots of water.

Congrats and best wishes.

eat child eat, if you feel hungry eat.. sheesh
you are supposed to gain weight you are pregnant. my other half put me on a lean meat and veggie diet that was so heavy on dairy products i thought i was going to grow horns like one of those giant dairy cattle.but, we got an extremely healthy girl out of the deal ( who was born at 28 weeks in our bathroom)you think you are tired of eating now, you just wait till you get further into your pregnancy, and dont let anybody tell you that you will never lose the baby weight, so you might as well push yourself away from the table now, pregnancy is the time to eat and take good care of yourself, because you are not just eating for yourself, you know
