I am just a worrier by nature. I really hate that I am but I seriously stress about EVERYTHING. So naturally for me when I am pregnant this worry is magnified ten fold. Today my worries stem from laying on my back while pregnant. I have read that if you happen to wake up from sleeping on your back that its fine because you most likely woke up due to the fact that your body was saying 'hey roll over' but I am finding that I wake up on my back sometimes and I dont move because I am only half awake. Its sort of like when you can hear yourself snoring but stay semi asleep until your partner has had enough and shoves you. Anyway, I was just wondering if there are any true signs that you have done damage or are doing damage from being on your back and if so what are they?
Also this is a bit TMI but what about when you are getting frisky and you happen to be on your back? In a situation like that, if the baby was actually putting pressure on your vena cava would you be able to tell? Meaning would the 'good' feeling out weigh the bad
Im know I must sound crazy but hopefully Im not the only one that has enough free tome to sit around and worry and stress about nutty stuff like this
Someone please put my mind at ease
BTW I am currently almost 18 weeks pregnant
Thank you all and Happy Monday

You're not the only one to worry this much in pregnancy, trust me :)
I worried all the time as well, but my mom was always telling me "well WE never did that/worried about that/stopped this" etc etc etc. And this helped me, because it's true for most things I was worrying myself over. Our parents didn't stop drinking caffeine (mom thought I was nuts) and I doubt they knew not to lie on their backs, etc. My advice - do the obvious safe things (no drinking, smoking, etc.) but all the extra do's and don'ts you should try but don't drive yourself nuts over it. The stress from worrying is probably worse for you and the baby. Your baby is super protected in there :) Also, you will have plenty to worry about soon enough! Any specific worries, ask your doc

I bought the book Everything you wanted to know when you are pregnant, and scoured it everyday, ten times a day... I bought books that showed exactly what my babies looked like at certain weeks... I had a million questions each pregnancy... I won't even tell you all the things I learned except for two which I think were good to know that I didn't know before... 1. Don't go in a HOT hot tub and 2. Try not to be the one to empty kitty litters... I mean I heard you had to cut the brown spots off of your potatoes or it could cause something or other.. besides the obvious about alcohol and drugs, I just learned I had to STOP the madness! and honey, sorry to tell you but.... If you are a new mom... it won't stop after pregnancy either... I remember the first time my baby projectile vomited!!! Oh my gosh I thought there was something majorly wrong!!!!
The thing is, you are so normal... I liked Dawn's idea about a pillow if you are so concerned but just know....women sleep in different positions and in all circumstances and have had perfect babies! I know it is easy to tell someone to stop worrying but it might help to know God has created us to have babies and all women sleep and do many of the things you are worrying about... usually the things we worry about never happen and like I said, the norm is having those perfect babies!

I am on my 11th pregnancy and this is the first time I have ever heard that it is bad to sleep on one's back. Why is it dangerous?

I guess there are times ignorance is bliss! I was 19 when I had my son and I didn't watch baby story or read many of the books or anything. I was finishing high school and working a full time and part time job, so when I slept I was too freaking tired to care about what position I was in. I knew the obvious, don't go in hot tubs, don't drink/smoke, etc. Other than that I guess I figured that women had babies long before shows like Baby Story and books like What to Expect When You're Expecting. Listen to your body, it will tell you if you are in pain something may be wrong. I didn't read any of that stuff and I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy and a full term, healthy baby.
