Hi I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation. I am currently about 8 days late and I took a home test. All's well but I am unsure if it is positive or negative. After the three minutes the test said to wait there was a solid pink line and looked like possibly a very very faint second line. With my daughter it was VERY clear there were two lines. If it is negative would you not even be able to tell where the second line should show up? I know this sounds crazy but like I said the first time around two dark pink lines popped up immediately.
Thanks for all your responses. Unfortunately I started bleeding heavy dark blood this morning. I believe that you were probably right and that it was positive and my body just spontaneously aborted. But thanks for all your responses.

For the next time this happens I would try a different test if I were you. When I found out i was pregnant I tried a test with the pink lines and it was very difficult to tell, then I used the clear blue easy digital tests, they are pretty much fool proof. I swear by them, as well as my friend who also can only tell by the digital tests. They are much easier and more clearcut.

I would wait a few days and repeat the test. Unfortunately, with some home pregnancy tests, if you read them after the time alloted, you can see a faint line which is usually the control line so you don't get an accurate answer.

If the second line (faint one) is gray, I'd toss it and retest. If it was pink, it's likely to be a positive result. I'd suggest taking another test, try Answer brand, they have one of the highest sensitivities.

I am currently 24 weeks pregnant with my second child. My first child the line was dark the very first time. This time I went to the doctors to get a blood test because the line was very faint, but was there. It was super faint, I had to tilt it just the right way to see it, agian was still there. I knew I was pregnant even after seeing the faint line but had a little doubt because it was so faint. Good Luck! Congratulations if they are in order!

It could very well be positive, but it could also be negative. If the faint line was there after the time waited to read the test it is probably positive, but if it showed up minutes after you are suppose to read the test it is probably negative. However, to be sure I would get another test and take it first thing in the moring to be sure.

This happened with my son! The doctor said it is just because there is little hormone in your system showing right now. I think if you took it again in a couple of days, that line would show up strongly just as mine did. Awesome!

I had the same problem and it turned out I was pregnant. The second line was very faint and caused me to buy 6 more pregnancy tests. With all them the second line was faint so I went to my doctor and sure enough I was about 7 weeks along. Hope this helps.
I'm sorry for your loss. I also miscarried a week later. Maybe that faint line is a tell tell sign you won't carry the pregnancy.

I had that type of result with my first. I didn't know any better and assumed that was negative. Boy, was I wrong! When I saw my OB he said, did you read the instructions on the test? It says something about if you get what you think is a negative or inconclusive test you should wait 2 wks (I think) and retest. With my second, I got the same result the first time (negative/inconclusive) and waited 2 wks and retested - positive. My OB said I was "barely" pg and so the hormones were not strong enough yet to register on the test. Read the instructions and retest whenever it says you need to. Good luck!

I had a very similar thing happen with my first baby. I realized later that you can't see the second line at all if it is negative. I think it might have something to do with the level of hormones in your body at the time of the test. If you have just recently become pregnant, you could not have enough of the hormones yet to give a clear yes. I would recommend waiting another week and then testing again. One more week should be enough to tell you for sure. I think that is why the tests come in packs of two. Good luck!

It deoends on how early you test. Your hormone levels get higher the longer you wait, and therefore gives you a darker line. Any negative that I have gotten, I wasn't able to see any hint of a second line. I know it's nerve wracking, but wait a couple of days before re-taking it. If you still haven't started, that will be a really good indication, but if you are pregnant, you will be able to have a much clearer test. Good luck!

I am currently in the same boat. the reason for the faint line is due to the levels of the pregnancy hormone. However, it is not due to the test, all the tests are the same in their effectiveness in measuring the hormone. some tests such as the Answer test only measure a higher amount of the hormone. EPT and most store generics measure less than that of the Answer test. So if you used Answer I would try a different test. Test again, and go ahead and call your Dr. Also, your hormone levels are higher first thing in the morning, so you can test then too.
Good luck

I had the exact thing happen to me and everyone said that meant I was not pregnant. Well I had a different feeling inside I knew something was not right I just knew it! I made an appointment with my Dr and it was confirmed I was pregnant and I was as early as 5 wks along I just knew I was. Very similar on my firt child the test was very positive with no questions. When in doubt always investigate your instinct.
Good luck to you!

I had the same thing happen with my first pregnancy, which miscarried about a week after I took the test. They called it a "blighted ovum", and said it was already clearing out of my system when I took the test. My second pregnancy was two dark lines, and my son is now 3. A blood test from your doctor will confirm it one way or the other. I hope it goes the way you want it to.

Hey M.,
When I was pregnant with my son (my 1st) the line was as clear as day, but when I got pregnant with my daughter...that line was as faint as it could get. I thought for sure that I was wanting so much to be pregnant that my eyes were just seeing things. I had 5 friends take a look and they all said they saw it too. So I waited another week, took one in the morning and that line turned out faded too. Chances are: you are pregnant, but one way to know for certain is go to either your Dr or a clinic to find out. That way there is no guessing about whether the line is there or not. Good Luck!!

Hi Mandy,
It happened to me, it deppends on the level of hormones. A new morning try will be advice, but I would suggest not to wait, because when it happened to me, it was because the pregnancy was not implanted properly and end up loosing it, don't want to scare you, it can be for many reasons, but just in case I think that you should know....Try again first thing in the morning, you are probably pregnant and everything will be fine.
Wish you the best!

If you can see even a slight line, it is positive (CONGRATULATIONS) Both of my boys were hard to read for several weeks. My second son did not even show up positive until I was three weeks late!! You can always have a blood test done at your OB's office. That will tell you for sure.

The exact same thing happened to me. I would advise to use one of the digital pregnancy tests that clearly states pregnant or not pregnant. I used that the day after I tried the "pink lines" type and I got my answer, and my beautiful daughter! I ended up being pregnant, even though the lines were to faint to read the first time around. Good Luck!

I had a false positive like that many years ago. I had bought the off brand (Equate) test and you do get what you pay for to an extent. I have used EPT ever since with the only positive being my son. You may want to try again with a different brand.

A line is a line...
The second line will not show up unless there is the pregnancy hormone in your urine. I'm not a doctor, but I think it's pretty safe to say you're pregnant. Congrats!!

Funny but just 5 weeks ago I did the same thing. (But I went crazy and bought 3 more tests!) My first one was a very faint second line and so I looked over the instruction paper and it read that any line is a line! So my husband immediately said 'yes you are pregnant', but like I said I went out and bought a different brand and did it again, this time the line(s) were darker. Anyway, to make a long story short......re-read the instructions----but you are probably pregnant. So congratulations! (I am now 8 weeks along)

I think it really depends on the level of hormones in your system. The earlier you are in pregnancy, the lower the level. When I was pregnant with my first child, the test revealed a very faint line. I went to the doctor and had a test there which was negative. Blood tests were inconclusive for a period of time, but a sonogram confirmed I was pregnant, and I ended up with a perfectly healthy little girl. You should consult your doctor on this one and take it easy.
