I can't sleep welll I fall asleep pretty easy at night but as soon as something wakes me up(like my 20 month old that hates sleeping alone) I am up for hours...wide awake. I can't nap during the day either. I either can't fall asleep (if I do it takes a good hour) or if I fall asleep right away I am up for hours trying to fall asleep. I am 27 weeks along. Are there any tricks to fall back asleep? I am desperate and exhausted.
I should add that I walk 2 miles a day. Chase my 20 month old all day(except fot the hour and a half he is napping..lol) I also have a 9yo and a 6yo to deal with after school. I have decided to start putting my son back to bed every time he wakes up instead of letting him come in bed with us I am up anyway.....
My husband is working out of town now until christmas , but he has to get up at 530 am and then drive 1.5 hours work ten hours then drive home. He wil however get up with the kids on Saturday and try his best to keep my little mamas boy from coming up to get me. He is home fridays but I get the kids ready for school and that's fine with me. Sunday is church so I don't want to stay in bed.
I am going to ask my dr and see what he says. Thanks for all the imput.

Are you nauseas at all? Phenegrin works for me, it's an anti-nauseu pill often prescribed in pregnancy.. it is also a sedative. Talk to your Dr.
Listen to some relaxing music...Enya is a great choice!
Well having the same problem, 30 weeks along and actually my son turned 1 yesterday and doesn't sleep all night yet, I've tried it all. It was really bad with my last pregnancy as well, and nothing worked. DH gets up with the 1 year old, and actually will then sleep on the couch so as not to wake me, and that helps some. I also keep the room very cool (cold), run a fan for white noise, use an eye mask AND at least once a week still need to take half a tylenol pm. But it works. I've always been told it was safe (this is number 5, and I've had various doctors) and the normal dose is 2 pills, so i take significantly less than that. Ask your doctor, but it could help.
I've also tried limiting media before bed, dimming lights (like we do to get our babies to sleep) exercising, keeping naps short if I do take one(and strange but once it's light outside I can sleep for hours, I had a rough night and Dh was off work the other day and I took a 4.5 hour nap a mere hour after getting out of bed that morning) and I see my chiropractor regularly for an adjustment.

This might raise some eyebrows, but my OB, mother, and MIL all suggested a glass of wine in the evening once you hit the third trimester. I forget where 27 weeks puts you.
Another thing to consider is just as with children, in adults, sleep begets sleep. Speak with your doctor for a sleep aid, overnight at a neighbors, send the 20 month old to grandmas. A couple of nights of uninterrupted sleep can help you to re-tool your sleep cycle.

I feel so badly for you! Nothing helped me. My doc gave me a very strong sleeping pill the night before I was to be induced and I only slept 2 hours.
Will your husband not deal with the toddler to give you a break?
or ask your doc to prescribe some anti-histamine that wont affect your baby
I have had insomnia since my teens that only intensified with pregnancy. First I would suggest that you get your toddler to sleep by themselves-even if they have to cry for a while otherwise when your baby is born you will be in major trouble!!! Be strong and stick with it! Second I slept with a pillow over my ears to muffle sounds a little-I still could hear my kids but not everything else. Third get some exercise during the day-you will sleep better and hopefully fall back asleep easily. Fourth keep a snack and a bottle of water by your bed so that when you wake up hungry or thirsty you don't have to get up and turn on lights. 5-stop drinking water 2 hours before bedtime so you can cut down on bathroom trips(I know it's hard when you're pregnant!)
