Has anyone ever been to Disney World during their first trimester? Did you ride rides, even if they had the health risk posting? I'm 6 weeks pregnant and leaving on Thursday.

What can I do next?

I went to Wet n Wild when I was at the end of my first trimester. I didn't follow the signs I just followed my own common sense on the issue. I think if you do that you will be fine.

Congrats on the pregnancy! We were just at Disney World 3 weeks ago. I would stay away from the heavy duty roller coasters like Space Mountain, Everest, Big Thuder Mountain Railroad and the Test Track etc, they really jerk you around. Follow the guidelines on the map for the most part. You would probably be ok on the Kilimnajaro Safari - it was pretty mild and the drivers are pretty safe about the drive. It didn't bother my son and he got nervous on Winnie the Pooh LOL. I think it's pretty much common sense and like the other moms said, if in doubt don't go on it there's still plenty you can do.

Definitely do not go on rides that will bump or jar you in any way, shape or form. I was about 4 months prego with my first child and all that walking caused me to develop pre-eclampsia. Make sure you drink WATER and a lot of it as well as rest when you can!! If you are going to the Disney in Orlando, FL. The First Aid station is tucked back behind the shopping area on Main...look for it on the map just to be safe. Also, with my second pregnancy we rented a wheelchair for me to be pushed around in...it was nice but man, people just would not move out of the way.

Have fun and be safe!!

Hi J.,
I would NOT ride any rides that have the health risk posting. There are so many things to do besides the rides (shows, Epcot, fireworks, etc...) that you should still have an awesome time without riding the "big" rides.

Also, during the first trimester, your body is "making" so many of the vital organs of your baby, so please stay rested AND hydrated (with water).

You can always go back to Disney in the future, but you only get one chance at making this child.

I would ONLY ride the very slow rides, like "It's a Small World." Don't risk a potential miscarriage. Sit back, relax, and take joy in watching everyone else ride the fast rides. Don't be jealous that you can't ride - after all, you have a tiny little miracle growing inside your body!

I was 6 week too when we went. On the pamplets you get, it will show a symbol or have written next to the ride if you can go or not. Just follow the advice! Have fun!!!

I went to six flags when I was 12 weeks pregnant and rode a few of the rides that had the pregnancy warning. I think they are meant for women in their second or third trimester and they don't want to be sued if anything was to happen to your baby. I don't believe there is any real risk at only 6 weeks beside getting queesy if you have a sensitive stomach. Your baby is VERY protected in your tummy and safe. I would avoid anything that has giant loops or real jerky bang around rides but I don't think Disney World has many of those anyway. BTW, almost EVERY ride at 6 Flags had the pregnancy warning no matter how gentle the rides were so Disney may be the same. You just have to decide for yourself which rides you feel are safe for you and your baby to ride. Have a great time!!

My recommendation would be to avoid rides at any point in your pregnancy. I know you probably want to take part in all the fun, but there is LOTS of other stuff that you will be able to do.

Better safe than sorry.

I went to Disney World this summer 28 weeks pregnant. I did not ride any of the rides that pregnant moms are not supposed to ride. My youngest at the time was 5 and was scared to ride many of them so I would have been with him anyway. I felt like I got to experience everything. I would ask you dr. what the risks are at 6 weeks. I had experienced 2 losses - baby who died moments before birth - so I wasn't going to take any changes.

When my mom was pregnant with my brother (fisrt child) she had asked her doctor about the activities she chould do. The dr's response was "Imagine your baby as a potato inside a glass jar filled with water. Anything you do that causes the potato to hit the side of the jar is something you shouldn't be doing." Hence the reason my brother's nickname is SPUD. Anyway, that story being told, I used the same advice through my 4 pregnancies. Use caution. If in doubt of the ride, DON'T (Space Mountain, Thunder Railroad I probably wouldn't ride) Winnie the Pooh, Buzz Lightyear, etc you could probably get away with _ but I'm no doctor....

I went when I was early in my pregnancy and absolutely followed the health postings for pregnant women. I got extremely dizzy from the plane ride over and during the trip I had a nervous stomach and was very tired. But other than that, I had a great time. There are so many things to do and rides you can ride. Have a wonderful trip!

I went toward the end of my first trimester and I followed almost all the advice regarding rides. I just figured that a child is too precious to risk, so I didn't ride anything that advised pregnant women against it. There was one exception. I did ride a water slide. I looked at the ones I had to choose from and chose the one that was the smoothest and without a drop. Have fun!

I was 4-5 weeks at disneyworld and didn't know it. My doctor said it was fine but that now that I knew to not ride the rides. And I rode all of the rollercoasters (pre-knowing). I am not encouraging you decision either way, but most of the attractions were not too bad. There was the indoor ride w. dinosaurs at animal kingdon that was pretty rough and space mountain that was pretty jerky. Other than that I can't remember any that were too bad.

I've been to Disney World during every trimester, and I ride everything that does NOT have a warning on it. Really, most of the rides are safe, except for 2-3 in each park. I know some pregnant women ride Kilimanjaro Safaris while pregnant, based on clearance from their doctors, but I avoided it. Will you be traveling with any young children? Basically any ride that is safe for a toddler is safe for you! (Except Kilimanjaro Safaris and Goofy's Barnstormer.)

Have fun!

I went to Disney in my first trimester with my last pregnancy and I only rode the VERY slow kiddie rides, any ride that had ANY kind of warnings, I simply did not ride, and I had a blast. There is something to be said for caution...My 5 yr old gets a laugh when we tell him he had been to Disney before he was even born because he can't see himself in the pictures. Since I am pregnant right now, he thinks only women with a BIG tummy have a baby inside them! Have a great time, drinks lots of extra water, and be sure you take your own snacks...the food is not cheap and not much of it is healthy!

most of the intense rides at disney have signs cautioning about riding if you are pregnant or have back or neck problems or certain medical conditions because you could injure or aggrevate a condition and they want to be held liable. Are you asking because you want to ride Space Mountain and the other rides or because you think you will spoil the trip for others because you won't ride?? Disney has a good system. You can stand in line with your group and then pass on the ride as they enter and meet them right at the exit. They also have a system for 2 parents (with one baby) to switch without having to wait through the line again. I don't think I would take the risk, but I am sure that other moms have ridden rides when they didn't know they were pregnant.

Don't ride the rides. It's not worth the risk. The risk is that any jarring motion can detach the fetus from your uterus - which would result in a miscarriage.

Congrats on the pregnancy!! Thats exciting. I will tell you that I was OVER careful when I was pregnant with my first because I wanted to make sure I did everything I could to keep her safe. I think with my second I will be the same way..maybe a bit more relaxed. I would say no to riding rides until after the baby is born! You would not want to chance anything!

My best friend and I went to Disney about 2 years ago. She wsain her first trimester. She went on tower of terror, the inside roller coaster. There wasn't much she did go on. She had her son, and he was prefactly healthy. Most of the rides are wiplash type a rides. Roller coasters go really fast. They don't do a tons of sudden stop and throwing you around. I think you'll be fine. If you have a funny feeling about, then don't ride. But I wouldn't let it stop you. Have fun!

I've never been to Disney World, so don't know how the rides are, but I would think that any ride that doesn't have the lap bar pressing tightly on your abdomen, or any ride that is not extremely jarring would be OK at this point. The baby is very small still, and well protected, but it's still very early and higher risk for miscarriage. I know at six flags, some of the rides have lap bars that go over the legs, or even some really fast rides like Freeze or Batman have the over the shoulder and chest harness, and rides like that would probably be OK too. I would just check with your doctor and see what his advice is too.

I went to Disney World when I was 11 so I don't remember to well all the rides, but my brother lives 20 mins. from Disneyland in California and we've taken our daughter there many times, and most of the rides were very mellow. You sit in boats and float thru water, or gently in the air. A lot of them didn't even have seat belts so there should be plenty of rides that you should enjoy! Like the other mom said...Drink plenty of fluids and eat healthy!!

I would be careful. I did not go to Disney but I did go to Six Flags. I was only about 8-10 weeks pregnant at the time. I went on several rides but asked to be taken off a ride before it started because I could feel the bar that holds you in pushing against my baby. It was very uncomfortable and I'm sure would not have been good for the baby had I stayed on the ride. Use your best judgement and be careful.

You might want to talk to your doctor. I would avoid the big rides and anything that might make you feel sick. Your hormones are all out of wack at the moment so even if you were a tea cup kind of girl it might make you miserable now so I would just avoid it.
