Pregnancy After Hernia Repair

Have any of you mamas been pregnant after an umbilical hernia repair? Mine is the result of a laparoscopic gall bladder removal in Dec 2011. I had a non-tension mesh repair in May 2012. I'm only 8 weeks and a day now, but wondering if anyone has some real life experience with it.

I'm already having a bit of tightness in the area (even though I haven't gained any weight).

I spoke to my surgeon about it at the time of my surgery; and he told me to expect some tightness and discomfort. He had no major concerns unless I ended up with an emergency C-section which could possibly go through the mesh. I also know there is a possibility of it re-opening.

Anyone have a real life experience they can share?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the feedback. I purposely had the hernia repaired before becoming pregnant at the advice of my midwife so it was a conscious decision.

Our situations probably aren't too similiar, but I had I ingenial hernia surgeries as a child. When I was expecting my first, I noticed a lot of tightness and even pulling especially pulling in the beginning. Even some snapping as scar tissue tore loose. My doctors didn't give me any warnings since my surgeries where so long ago, but I definitely noticed some discomfort. Best of luck to you in your pregnancy!

I had a congenital one that was fixed in 2005 when found it. Who knew what an "outy" really was? I didn't! Anyway, I have a tummy, so my c-sections happened quite a bit below my belly button, so that wasn't an issue for me.

Pregnancy, well, I've had 2, and I don't think that was a factor for either one of mine. I had a lot of aches and pains my belly and abdomen, but I didn't actually feel anything from the hernia or the mesh. My Ob never seemed to worry about it, and I was fine afterwards. I doubt you have much to worry about in that area.

I don't have any answers for you but I would definitely "listen" to my body and keep your concerns as current dialogue with your obgyn.
The body is amazing and most likely you wont have a problem, things will slowly adjust day to day. I would stay optimistic yet alert.
congrats
