When I took water arobics class there were always 1 or 2 VERY pregnant women in the class. It helps take some of that extra weight and uncoordinated feeling away!

We have a pool at our house. I swam up until the day I popped with both my sons. It was the only place I didn't feel like I weighed 500 pounds and my boobs felt relief! I say go for it.
YES YES & YES!!!! Please do.... It is so good for you and baby. It increases your cardiac output and circulation to the baby..... As long as you are not swimming in a "hot tub" or a lake full of pollution it is WONDERFUL..... Have fun!
Yes, be wary of the weight you are going to be a painfully slow sea snail. lol It also feels soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooooooood to get the pressure off your body. Also watch for the ab/oblique cramps, lil suckers will get ya at that stage of pregnancy.
my doc told me not in the last month b/c if you loose your "plug" then you won't know it.
I was told swimming especially in late pregnancy is recommended for exercise since it lifts your body and doesn't put too much stress on it. It was suggested to me by my midwife as well as yoga. If you are still concerned about it after reading all the replies you get then you should double check with your OB/GYN. I would assume you don't have a high-risk pregnancy or anything else that would make this a no-no.

And in response to Karen's answer below, what's the big deal about losing your mucus plug and not knowing it? I daresay that many if not most women lose it w/o seeing it. Only if it comes out nearly whole in your panties, or you happen to see it in the toilet between all the floating toilet paper, would you know you've lost it. In many women, it gets thinner and is lost just as "increased vaginal moisture." My mom had four children and never even knew that there *was* a mucus plug until I mentioned it to her when I was pregnant. And unless you're going to be douching (a bad idea for most times, but particularly when pregnant), or getting vaginal exams (which tell you *nothing* except how dilated you are at that moment) nothing is going up your vagina with or without the mucus plug.
Unless you are dilating or under physician's orders for bed rest or no exercise it is a wonderful way to get some oxygen, take the 'load' off for a while and get some much needed muscles and joints moving! Make sure to start gently and make smooth movements in the water. If you can find a non-cholorinated pool, all the better! I would NOT go into a hot tub for many reasons. Enjoy your momentary weightlessness and float your worries away. Soak up some vitamin D from the sunshine if you are lucky enough to be in a warm climate.
If you want to swim in the ocean, pick a time when the waves are gentle.
Your baby will be enjoying the swim with you!
You can swim up until the day you deliver as long as you don't overdo yourself. It is a great source of exercise for ALL of your body
My answer to that would be yes!
I went swimming up until 3 days before I delievered my 2nd child. You would be amazed at how great you feel. When you get into the water, it's like a huge weight is lifted off of you! It's great exercise for those who can't while pregnant. They say it helps too with an easy delivery. I started swimming when i was around 7 months, and would swim all day long!

Swimming is great exercise for pregnant women - provided you don't have any problems that a doctor told you about. I swam up until the night I went into labor with both of my kids ... and one was 7 days late!

I think they only say in the last few weeks of your 9th month you should not take baths....
YES!! its the best kind of exercise for you when pg! Low impact and takes the stress of joints. Go for a float :)

If you could swim before you got pregnant, you can swim while you are pregnant. In fact swimming is a very good exercise for pregnant women! The poster who said it should be avoided because you might loose your mucus plug & not know it,has been misinformed. 1st, as another poster already commented, not a big if you have lost your plug, anyway, but, the mucus plug is thick, slimy blody mucus. unless you are swimming in the nude, it will stick to your swimsuit, and be noticable when you come out. As another poster said, many women do not realize when they loose their plugs, in or out of the water, no difference.
Another poster said not to take baths the last month?!? I think she has been misinformed also. bathing not only helps keep you clean down there, better than a shower can, but is very soothing & relaxing. Many of my clients have waterbithsand we have never had any kind of problems being in the water during labor & even giving birth in the tub. One client last year even started her labor while she was swimming at her local pool with her daughter. She stayed there in the pool for hours, before she finally came home and switched to her birth pool.
Obviously the water source is a consideration too. You can catch all kinds of things swimming in polluted lakes or overcrowded pools.
Waterskiing however should be avoided in the last trimester.
