Moving to MN and looking for a school where my son can attend 2-3 times per week but for period longer than 2 hours. Most of the programs are 2 hours long but would like to find a place where he can attend "school"4+ hours. Not looking for a daycare. Live in Minneapolis. Any suggestions would be great!

My kids attend White Bear Montessori School. It is 5 days per week for 3 hours per day. We love it! People drive from as far away as Rogers to attend. I have a 6 year old in her fourth year there and a 3 year old just starting. My six year old was reading at age 4. She writes in cursive and is learning division. I give all the credit to the staff. She has made wonderful friendships there, as well. Hope you can check it out!

My kids attends St. Anthony Preschool (run through the St. Anthony Village Community Center). They have several different programs depending on how many hours you want your child to be in school. St. Anthony Village is a small suburb very near NE Mpls. (I live in NE myself).

Hi, N.! My son goes to Elim Preschool (http://www.elimpreschool.org/en/index.html) in NE Minneapolis, and we really like it. Their morning session goes from 9-11:30, but if you add in Morning Romp and Lunch Bunch, the kids' day is from 8:30 - 1:00. There is an afternoon session as well (1:00 - 3:30), and some parents send their children all day. The teachers and director are great, very caring and nurturing.

Good Luck and God bless you!
I.

Our son goes to White Bear Montessori and we have been beyond thrilled. It's a wonderfully calm, organized atmosphere, where the kids are able to be guided through their learnings at their own pace. The staff and teachers are great, and it's a beautiful environment. I love that the classroom are mixed age, so the littlest kids not only get help from the teachers, but from the bigger kids as well. We've also loved that it has a wonderful community to be involved in--I know parents there far far more than the daycare settings he had been in previously, where you only say hi as you come and go. I would definitely recommend checking it out. It's also one of only a handful of "AMI" accredited schools in the Twin Cities (Assn. Montessori Int'l).
