Pre-k Graduation

My daughter's pre-k class does a graduation. It helps recognize the transition from pre-k at the preschool to Kindergarten at the elementary school. They do the cap/gown and get a diploma. I wanted some ideas on what to get her?

What can I do next?

My husband and I run a Space Walk branch (bounce houses, etc.). We just rented a Space Walk bounce for a get-together for a little girl who graduated Pre-K. She was so cute! The parents treated it like a birthday party except for the gifts. You could pass out invitations to the event stating End of the Year or Graduation Party.

Good luck!

When my daughter graduated Pre-k, I just picked out a couple of books and gave them to her. She loves to read so this was a perfect and inexpensive idea for her.

I read two great books at BN today. One was called Someday and the other was I Knew You Could. When I read both of them I thought this will be a great gift for my daughter when she graduates from prek next year. Another good idea would be a really frilly picture frame that you could put a pic of her in her cap and gown for her bedroom.

Sorry, but I agree with Brandi. There are so many "graduations" that by the time they get to high school, it's not such a big deal. The kids don't even really understand what a graduation is, and they really didn't do anything to earn it. With all our kids, we've kept it simple, and they've been fine with it.

I think your presence at the ceremony will be all he needs.
You can have someone take a nice picture of your family at the ceremony and frame it and put it in his room.

I feel like a bad mom! My son "graduates" Pre-K next week and I wasn't planning on getting him anything. I was going to let him pick what he wanted me to make for dinner or where he wanted to go eat afterwards!

Girl, if you worry yourself about a graduation present for her now, I'd hate to see you in 12 years. I have a step-daughter graduating high school and my 5 year old son graduating kindergarten on the same day this year. My son has no clue what graduation even entails, so I'll probably let him pick out a special, inexpensive gift. My step-daughter wants a car. My suggestion: save whatever money you plan to spend on a gift now and put towards her high school graduation. By the way, my step-daughter WON'T be getting a car. Have fun!

I teach pre-k and I'm so pleased when parents see the importance of this milestone. I notice on graduation day how much "taller" they seem and how much more "grownup" they act. The moms in the past that have girls have given 5 roses
(wrapped) not in a vase. Their eyes light up (this is a grownup gift and they are being recognized as BIG now.

After all, these graduates have learned the groundwork that will set them up for life. It is a big deal, and a small token of recognition is most welcomed. A book, (perhaps about the first day of school, a cute pencil and notebook - and certainly followed by her choice of restaurant.

Congratulations! Have a wonderful day.

What about a backpack, lunchbox, and school supplies? Or, just a small pencil box with school supplies that she can use over the summer. I didn't get my son anything...it was just a nice ceremony and we talked, but no present. My hubby always says we are present crazy and it's not necessary! You could also see if the Kinder school has school t-shirts that you could get for your daughter to get her excited about going there...or maybe just a tour of the school.

I agree with several other moms...I don't think a gift is necessary at this point. Kids are too spoiled these days and EXPECT to get gifts for everything. As a child I never expected to get a gift (nor did I get any) for different occasions other than my birthday and Christmas.

Instead of a gift, create a special moment for your daughter after graduation. Take a good picture at the ceremony and frame it. Let her pick where to go eat afterwards. That should be plenty.

My daughter will have her pre-k ceremony next year and I don't plan to get her a gift. I'll likely do what I just mentioned above. I want her Graduation from High School to be a big deal and it won't be if there are graduation ceremonies at every level and it seems to be going that way unfortunately.

Hope this helps. Enjoy the ceremony next week!

I am a preschool teacher of 4 year olds. Most parents do not do gifts. We, the church, have a graduation ceremony and a reception afterwards for the "graduates" and their family. The kids are so excited about the ceremony and do not think of expecting a gift. They have no reason to. But, if you want to get her something, how about a book. There are books that talk about going into kindergarten or "big school." Mrs. Bindergarten gets ready for kindergarten" is a good one. There are several in that series. I read one to my class last week called "Graduation day." It had pictures of small kids and talk about what was going to happen that day and who would come to watch. I compared the pictures to what we have been practicing for. Good luck.

My DD is graduating from pre-k on Tuesday. I didnt plan on getting her anything either. I agree w some of the other moms that society IS present crazy. But we are definately having a party. The night before we are going to make graduation crafts, my DD LOVES to do crafts! The grandparents are coming to the graduation ceremony, we are all going out to eat afterwards, and then back to our house for a special cake. I make cakes, so I am making a hello kitty w a pink grad cap on her head. Goodluck!

I'm not doing anything for my dd who has the same ceremony for her preschool next week. Seems frivilous and unnecessary since the kids are 4 & 5. Kids are so spoiled now and our society really pushes activities and events so early. How about you two put together a 3 ring binder of her preschool year for her to look at. Why not make a cake together to celebrate the summer. Do something with your child to mark her accomplishment instead of buy her something. At my house the kids appreciate those moments more.
Sorry I can't help with a gift idea...

If you want to have a little party, familyfun.go.com has some really cute cupcake/cake ideas you can make together (butterflies, hamburger and hot dog looking toppers for cupcakes, etc.) As for a gift, how about some new art supplies for summer? Watercolors, playdough, ABC cookie cutters to play with the dough, new crayons, etc. You could do a whole gift basket. You could emphasize the "big girl" stuff...no more fat crayons, smaller paintbrushes, more intricate coloring books...

When my daughter graduated last year from pre-k they also did a little ceremony. We didn't give her a gift but just told her we'd take her out for dinner to celebrate. I felt like she didn't need a gift for it since it's just preschool!

I work at a elementary, in Kindergarten. If you are looking to do something for her, do something she likes. For example, Chuck-E-Cheese, Build-A-Bear, etc... If she like to shop, go on a Mom and Daughter shopping trip. When my son graduated Kindergarten, 3 years ago, he simply wanted a new game for the PS2. Just ask her what would be her favorite thing to do. You'll be surprised at the answer she'll give. Make a list of say 5 things and ask for her to pick the very best one. It may take her a couple of days to decide, so you might want to get started right away. You might even share a special piece of jewerly with her. Good luck, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

When our daughter graduated from Pre-K two years ago, we gave her a small stuffed graduation bear (so she'd have something to play with) and a Precious Moments graduate figurine (so she'd have a keepsake for years to come). She liked them both. I'm not sure where the bear is at this point but the figurine still sits prominently on her shelf.

My daughter just graduated from pre-K last week & although I hadn't originally planned on getting her a gift, another mom told me that she got her son an alarm clock for his pre-K graduation. I thought that was a fantastic idea, so ran right out & got one! Not only teach her to tell time, but with an alarm clock to help her get up when she starts kindergarten. We got her a Tinkerbell one that projects on a ceiling - it's a bit cheap & cheesy, but she loves it. So, I don't feel like I'm spoiling her as I got her something cute, but also extremely practical!

I don't know how much time you have before her graduation but I'm a consultant for a company called Heritage Makers. You can create her a beautiful storybook about her time in pre-K that she would be able to cherish her entire life. It's all done on your own computer at home or work using our website. I have a 2 1/2 year old and I've already created quite a few keepsakes that I know she will cherish as a adult and LOVES to look at everyday as a child. Children LOVE seeing themselves in books. If it sounds like something that would interest you please check out my website.
