Hi my name is J., I have 3 kids, two girls and one boy. My little gril is 3 turning 4 in dec. I have been having problems with her going to the bathroom for pee. she'll go when she needs to poop but very rarely she goes when she needs to pee. When she was first potty trained at the end of last year she was going to the bathroom to do both then around mid March of this year she started to pee in her underware. I don't know what I can do to motivate her to go and pee in the tolite. My other 2 kids never gave me this problem. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I don't know what you should do but it sounds like she is doing it on purpose. Unless she is mentally challenged. Maybe another mom has some psychology about this. Hope it works out for you soon.

Hmm, I would need to know more about this situation so that I can usefully reply to you - what is your demeanour when she wets herself? How does it vary with what place you are in, or time of day?
Do you change her - is this a way to get more personal time with you? or are you telling her to go get cleaned up and put on dry clothes?
There is no wrong answer, OK, it's just relevant to know.
Does she ever use the bathroom to pee these days and if so, what characterises those occasions, is she busy the other times?
And - Is there anything she doesnt feel comfortable about, in the bathroom or hallway?

Bribary might be the last resort ;-) but not the first one.
Best to understand the reason for the behaviour and aim to modify it first.

Hi,I use the piggy bank method. Whenever my kid does her buisness she get's to put a coin in her piggy bank. Pennies for pee and nickles for poo. For your case ask her which one she likes more and use that for pee. Then at the end of the week she gets to buy a treat at the store.

Hi J.!
3 kids is a handful! I had 7 and it was the hardest at 3 kids. After that it seemed to be just the same (shoveling mud uphill all day!)
There is a great tip on potty training on

It really worked for my 7 kids!
Best to you,

Well she knows how & when to go, so I would look at positive incentives. My son does anything for 2 M&M's, maybe you could do the same or do a sticker chart and when it's full get her a special toy.

I'm experiencing a very similar situation. My daughter is turning 3 next month and she has been doing very well with potty training the past few months, but with a great amount of effort on my part. I started wondering if I've been pushing her too much because it is always like pulling teeth and aggravating. A few nights ago she peed her pants twice within 2 hours and it seemed very purposeful to me. I was so mad, I scolded her harshly. Then I just decided to try a new tactic by putting her completely back in diapers and not even mentioning the potty for a week to see what happens. I don't think that is an option for you since your child is almost 4... I don't even know if this is even going to work but I was just so done with the whole thing! (I know, I'm sending mixed messages...) We have a 9 month old and I sometimes think my older daughter still wants to be a baby and be treated like a baby too. She is very envious of the attention her baby sister gets. I am so hoping she changes her mind. Like you, I'm at a loss to what to do. She goes poop just fine on the potty, but the pee thing is the one she just lets go...

Hi J.:
Yes,I would gather up all the patience you could muster, and then just guide her a little, by suggesting she take a periodic potty break. Sometimes, kids get so busy and preocupied, that they are ready to burst before they even realize it.Make her stop what shes doing sometimes, or when she has a break in play, or getting ready for lunch, have her first go potty and then wash her hands. What ever you do, don't humiliate or imbarass her.Don't scold her or act mad or disapointed in her lapses,or she will regress.Sometimes, children will have lapses, when changes occur in the family. It can be a new Baby,or a new sitter,or even discord in the family.Maybe she yearns for some alone time with you.Take each day as they come.Be compassionate and understanding, she will sense this, and want to please you.The very best to you and your darlin daughter. J.
