take him to the Doctor.
My 3 1/2 year old son has been complaining of a sore bum. His anus is pretty open and red. He has been fully potty trained for 3 weeks and wondering if he is just trying to hard to go poop or if he just isnt getting enough fiber. Is this a common thing? I dont want it to backfire and regress in potty training since he is doing so well.

My son had this happen to him, too. He was afraid to poop in the toilet, so he would hold it in, which caused his bum to hurt and turn very sore. At first, I would put a pullup or diaper on him, just to go poop, which helped. We also allowed him in the bathroom while other family members were going, so he would know it was ok to go in the toilet. It worked and he has no problems going, now. Also, when his bum was so red, I put bag balm on it, which helped the soreness.
Hth, and good luck!
Is he having problems pooping? Are you just using toilet paper when you/he wipes? We use the Cottonelle Flushable wipes on my kids.
How often is he pooping and does it look like? If he is not pooping once a day or even everyother day and his poops look like little harde pellets that is a sign of no enough fiber (ora maybe even too much dairy). My daughter gets constipated easily and when she complains about a sore bum and/or a pain in lower tummy I know that she has not gotten enough fiber and/or too much dairy. It does cause us set backs in potty training but I just keep pushing yogurt and various foods that are high in fiber.
Also it could be that he is holding the poop which could also cause a super sore bum. Maybe it try the flushable wipes, kids have sensitive skin so that might be the issue, there for son not wanting to wipe so hold poop. Without more info on how often he is going #2 and what it looks like it is hard to be of more help.
