Potty Training Twins - Celina, TX

Hi moms! I really need help knowing how to potty train my girls who will be 3 in November. The main problem is one is interested and the other isn't. The one who isn't will yell "no" when I tell them it's time to go potty. Then the other, who would probably be potty trained by now, will yell "no" just because sissy did. Ugh!

Any and all potty training advice would be greatly appreciated. My son was very easy and did both jobs in the potty after two weeks and only had one accident. I'm baffled on what to do with twins.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have twin girls who are 6 now. They potty trained at 20 months. I put them in training pants with plastic pants over them. One of my girls potty trained in one week and the other took that week plus a week. I don't believe in pull-ups, it confuses them. I'll warn you the 1st 3 days we went through 32 pairs of panties a day (16 each). It was constant, but after day three one of my girls really got it and the other learned to hold it longer before she had her accidents and so we progressed. You will think you have bitten off more than you can chew when they pee constantly, but it is worth it to stick it out 1 week with constant accidents and constantly taking them potty. We also spent some time outside in the back yard where I just had them run around with a shirt and no panties and then when they peed it ran down their leg and they got to experience what they were doing. I put the potty chair out there and when they started to pee I rushed them to the potty chair. Then we could just spray down the patio.

When you are in the house, the plastic pants contain the pee. I could see it sloshing around between their legs so I would stand them in tub to take them off and wash them down. I did use very cool water to wash them down when they had an accident so they didn't think having an accident meant one on one time with mommy with a nice warm bath. It was chilly and uncomfortable and I would talk to them about using the potty and not peeing their panties. Good luck!

When the twin that will go, does, tell her what a good girl she is, and let her put a sticker on a chart.don't make a big deal to the other one just ask,and if she said no , ignore and go on about your busness, pretty soon on her own without being resenteful to her sister, since you didn't say anything, she'll want a sticker too and will probably want to go on her own. And about every two hours or so, don't (ask) just say cheerefully , "lets go potty to the one that will , first" before she has a chance to hear her sister say no. then after she goes, say it to the negative one.

After reading all the responses, I agree with Tamara, I also agree with that you should continue with the girl that wants to potty train because her sister will see and hear her get the praise for pottying in the big potty and will want the same and follow. Just remember monkey see, monkey do and in this case have the interested one do and show and the other is soon to follow. I have a friend that had a daycare and she would set all 5-18 mos olds on the potty chairs in a row and who ever went first got a small hand full of froot loops and they all had the others to challenge of not pottying in their pants. It was alot but they will try to be the best for you.
I just hope when my son gets older that I can get him potty trained in a week since that's all the time I'll be able o take off, but I have about 6 more mos to go, he's only 9 mos now.

I have twins, boy and a girl, and decided to go slow. I really didn't push the issue until after their 3rd birthday. I showed them what to do and gave them prizes from the dollar store.
The best two investments are a kid seat for your potty, but more importantly, a potty seat for out and about. I got one that folds up from the right start store. Really helpful since little bottoms were not made for those big potties!

My twins were premies, so that is why I let them go at their own pace Encourage the one who is intersted, and hold back on the other one. Trust me, she will follow quickly!

I feel your pain, I have boy-girl twins, and potty training was a nightmare with two of them! All I can say is persistance and patience, it took lots longer with them than it did with any of the rest of my kids. I was spoiled by the one before them, who just decided one day to wear panties and never looked back. It took us a long time, but they finally decided that it was cool to wear big kid undies and be like their big brothers and sisters.

I think I'd just lay off they whole idea for a while. Try again later and maybe they will both be into it then. Good luck!

Hi! I have twin girl's that are 2 1/2 now and are going thru potty training! I feel your pain!!

I started a few months back and one was all for it and the other was scared to death, so I worked on the other one, and let the one that was scared just watch.

And she got interested in it when we put the Ikea potties all over the house and got stickers everytime her sister went. That was about a month ago and both girl's are potty trained and in panties all day and still get stickers and love that when they go!!

Good luck, remember all kids are different and I know my twins are sooooooooooooooo different, she will do it in her own time!!

They are not ready... wait til they are really ready to potty train, then it will go smoothly... I had this same problem but once my son was 3 yrs, 3 mths - he did it in a weekend. The best advice I got from a seasoned mom back then is that just be patient; they will not be in kindergarten in diapers; it made a lot of sense to me and was exactly right! Good luck!

I agree with Tamara. I potty my twin boys when they were 3. I know it sounds horrible, but praise the one that wants to go like crazy!! Give her stickers, whatever works. You will go through many panties!!! But it will be worth it at the end. I don't think you should wait any longer. Try it! Stay away from pull ups.
