Potty Training Trouble - Lewisville,TX

My daughter has been doing great at "tee-teeing" in the potty, wears panties daily, but when it comes to "poo-pooing" she refuses and actually requests that I put a diaper on her. I encourage her to sit on the potty first but nothing. I don't want to push to hard or make her constipated. If anyone has ideas, I'd love to hear them. BTW, there is no fear of the potty or where it might go etc. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

What can I do next?

I had the same problem with my son. He would do very well with "pee-peeing" on the potty, but then he would go into his playroom and shut the door to go "poo". So, one day I saw him retreating to his room and took him to the potty and sat him down. I asked him if he wanted a sucker. Of course he said yes! I told him that he couldn't have a sucker until he went poo on the potty. I then told everyone in his life the same thing, Do not give him any candy until he goes poo on the potty. From that point on everytime he asked for a sweet I would tell him he had to go poo on the potty first. After about a few weeks, he went into the bathroom, stayed for a few min. and came out and said that he went poo... (he was telling a story, of course, so he could get a sucker! lol) So, I gave him a sucker and made a big deal about him going poo on the potty A few days later he actually went poo on the potty! I made a big deal about it, (actually, I cried! My baby is a big boy!lol) I gave him a sucker and now he goes on the potty for everything! (And he doesn't even ask me for a sucker everytime! He does however want me to go "look"! lol) It worked for me! Good Luck!

I JUST got through this as well as 3 of my friends. Seems to be a normal thing and I just can't figure out why! At least your little girl asks you for a diaper! lol. My friend had to result to time outs after awhile cause after months of it her daughter knew by then she should go on the potty and after 2 time outs she never had a problem with it again. My daughter just finally got to the point that she didn't feel like a big girl with a diaper on and realized she hated how it felt to go in her pants so after about 5 or 6 "accidents" she got the point and when I cheered her on about it and rewarded her for it she has gone ever since. I think you are doing the right thing by always giving her the option and then she will come around I am sure. I also always put the "poo-poo" in the potty with her watching when she did go and told her that she should go in there just like when she goes pee-pee. Dont know if that will help your or not but its worth a shot! :)

We had the same issue with our son. We finally ended up making him clean himself up after he poo-poo in his underwear. It was a battle at first. We would make him take his clothes off. Dump the poo-poo in the toilet and rinse out his clothes. After 1-2 weeks he finally got tired of cleaning and did poo-pooed on the toilet.

Similar problem...my 3 yr old would pee pee in the potty but would not poo poo. I tried ALL kinds of bribs....if only he would just go in the potty! I ended up adding a clause to the brib. If he goes in the potty he get PEZ (he loves them) but if he goes in his pants, I get the PEZ. It took two times for him to realize that I actually would eat his PEZ! He decided he didn't want me to eat them so he started going in the potty. I must admit it was a desperate measure but I am thankful it worked. Good luck!

Had the exact same problem a little over a year ago.
These kids really, really like their disposable diapers! I purchased a Bjorn one-piece potty toward the end of what should have been potty training and it sits very low to the floor. I think they get used to having their knees up too. Anyway, I started by having her go with me to empty the paper diaper into the toilet and flushing it just so she knew that was where it should go. Someone suggested cutting a hole in the diaper so that the deposit would wind up in the potty and then dump the potty in the toilet. There was a bit of a struggle as I explained that she would eventually need to use the potty at preschool and that big kids don't wear diapers to school. Eventually our doctor told her that she could no longer use the diapers because of an allergy and that was that. We made a ceremony of getting all the diapers out of her drawer and "throwing them away." There was not even a hint of a question about it after that doctor's visit. Honestly, I think little ones today are just too comfortable in modern diapers and it's taking it's toll on us at potty training time! Meanwhile, I'm still loving taking the Bjorn potty in our car on long trips. It is a dream to clean up and carry!
