Please help... I have a two year old boy that I want to start potty training. I bought a little seat to put on the toilet, so my son can poop in the potty when he is ready... but what about peeing? I've heard that they pee and poop at the same time... but this potty doesn't allow for him to shoot down.... what the heck to I do??? I am like a fish out of water here..... not sure where to start or what to do...... I appreciate suggestions.... details please... thanks!
Hi P., you take the seat off of the toilet, a 2 year old should not need that, my kids at two sat on the actual toilet, and my 2 year olds in my daycare sit on the actual toilet, and stand up to pee. J.
I always used our regular potty for my 3 children (with assistance!). Try putting him on every hour or so. If you want success, don't make a big deal out of it, which will only put pressure on him and will likely backfire. Also realize that this process can go quickly for some a longer for others. I never put pressure on or had much discussion with my kids while potty training & all three times went smoothly! Another thing to know is that he can be making great progress & suddenly have set backs. This too is normal! Just relax & it will happen!
First off, wow my hats off to you 2 years and 2 weeks. I had the same problem when I was trying to potty train my son. I bought the soft potty seat to set on the regular potty but alas we had the same issue. I ended up waiting until he was 2 1/2 to full on potty train him (I read somewhere that boys take longer than girls to potty train so it didn't make me feel so bad) but anywho I went to the store and bought him one of those plastic potties that are for little ones. He was able to do both and we were much more sucessful. BTW when he was trying to pee I threw in cheerios and told him to "hit the target". He was much more responsive to that. kind of long but hope that helps!
Welcome to the fun =) I have 3 sons (7, 5 and 2). First of all, none of them liked the potty seat. They all have adapted to straddle the seat backwards (like a horse) faced backwards so that either #1 or #2 could be done comfortably. Eventually, once they got the hang of it, it was easier for them to transition to stand up pee...
This has been an overwhelming success. My first son wasn't potty trained until closer to 3 but my second was done by 2 and 1/2 and now my third son was potty trained by a remarkable 22 months (he is now 27 months).

Since he's probably a little young to learn to point it down, I would buy a different seat that has a "guard" that he can pee into until he learns. We have the Baby Bjorn seat that adjusts to fit any toilet.
