I've started potty training my son. He's been really good about urinating, but will not have a BM on toilet. He wants me to put a diaper on then, he'll go. I've heard kid's can be that way. I've not been pushing him and when he goes in his diaper we just talk about how he should try going on the toilet. I do have a reward system and it's been working for the urinating, but not the BM? Any tips on getting him to have a BM on the toilet? Thank you

What can I do next?

I have just gone through this exactly with my son. He even got constipated because he didn't want to go on the potty. He was urinating without accidents within 2-3 days but his BM took him about 3 weeks. He also asked to be put in a diaper. When he then went we would take it to his potty and put it in there to show him and then flush it in the big toilet. We used a lot of verbal encouragement and made him proud for going.

If your son has the urinating part he will probably catch on pretty soon.

We've been going through the exact same thing with my granddaughter.
My daughter said she goes BM at her house but she would go get a diaper here at my house. My daughter said because she doesn't have any diapers left at her house and won't buy them anymore and explained that to her daughter. I still had some pull ups left here so she would go and put one on and do her job. Well the pullups are all gone now so she doesn't have a choice......and have been going on the toilet here. The only thing I did notice is that she wouldn't have a BM everyday like she used to......she would go a couple of daysbefore she would go......did sometimes get a tummy ache in the beginning......but that didn't last very long, she's doing much better now.

So give it a try!
Good Luck

The tip is: patience.

You're doing everything right. And, we went through the exact same thing with our daughter. He will do this in time.

My friend had the same problem. The doctor suggested that when her daughter has a bm in her diaper they take it to the toilet and dump it in (the poo, not the diaper!). Then make a big deal about it being in there and have her flush. This gets them to be aware of where it needs to go and comfortable with having it in the toilet.

Maybe this would work for you?

Good Luck!
