I have a 3yr old who has been potty trained since he was 18 months, for the last six months he has been peeing at night & ocassionally during nap time. At first I thought it was that he was getting a cold drift, then a reaction to having moved, I also took him to see if he had an infection and the doc said he was fine. Should I be concerned or is this normal? Also I never used pull ups with him...should I do it at night? My 2 other daughthers never had this problem. Any ideas or suggestions? Please help!!!Thanx!!!!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank u soo much for ur help. All the responses were great & helped ease my worries. B/C of the field that I work in, I did run into an old friend who practices radionics & is a therapist...she basically told me what u guys had & emphasized all the changes that as a family we have gone thru & the peeing after so many months of being potty trained was a sure sign of fear...makes sense after thinking back on all the changes & how it has impacted him. The core issue is the fear & the peeing is just a way of processing his fear. I am going to try the radionics & see how that goes. Alot of my clients go to her for severe issues & it has wked...I am just curious & will give it a try...thanks for all ur help...

Two of my children both have friends who have "accidents" at night. They are both school age children who have been over for sleep overs at our house. My son's friend had brought overnight pants and his mother explained that he had accidents sometimes. My daughter's friend also brought overnight pullups and her parents said the same thing. I noticed with both of them that they were extremely hard sleepers. If I had to move them into a bed at night, or cover them up, neither one moved. Neither's breathing patterns changed or anything. Maybe your 3 year old has become a heavy sleeper?
The parents' advised us to not give them drinks after 7-8pm and make sure they use the restroom before bed. They still had accidents sometimes, but it helps.

Hi C.. Maybe his bladder is too small. Mine was and I wet the bed for several years. I think until I was about 5. I am not going to tell you to restrict his fluid intake before bed or anything like that. My mom tried everything and nothing worked. She just had to wait until my bladder caught up to the rest of me. I have also heard that they can kind of relapse after training. I put what I call a "sleeping diaper", (for her sake) on my 2 year old during naps and at night and it doesn't inhibit her potty use during the day at all. She knows it's okay to go pee in her sleeping diaper while she sleeps, but she must use the potty during the day. I figure we'll stop that when her bladder can hold more. I'm not worried and I don't think you should be either. Let me know what you find out. Maybe you'll need to enlighten me on this subject.

My son potty trained at 22 months but needed diapers at night until he was almost 4. Both of my girls have been dry over night since they were a couple months old, except for a few months with the older girl wetting the bed a few times per week after her babt sister was born. Sometimes it's something they need to outgrow, sometimes it's due to changes in their lives. Sometimes, there's no apparent reason.

I have a 5 year old daughter who still wears pull ups to bed at night. Every once in a while she'll get through the night dry, but it's not the norm. She's a really hard sleeper and she has a small bladder (she goes to the bathroom a dozen times a day), so I'm not pushing it. I figure that she'll get there when her body is ready. The only thing you can do is cut off their liquid intake about an hour before bedtime, make sure he uses the bathroom before bed, and wake him up to put him on the potty once right before you go to bed.

Boys are normally a litle slower at potty training than girls, as well as other things in life. So it's hard to really compare him to your girls I think. Although I have a little boy who was potty trained early as well. I had tried the first couple of night to go without pull ups but he was up all night for those nights wanting to go to th bathroom. Like he was a little insecure or something. Started using pull ups only at night to see if it would help him sleep better and i did. He has ALWAYS stayed dry except for maybe a sprinkle when he is sick and coughing a lot. I stopped using them even at night though after about a year of use. That seemed to do him good to get his confidense I guess. With your little boy, since he has always done well excpt for recently I would myself think that maybe he has started to dream. When I was little I remember having dreams of going to the bathroom at the store with my mom or going swimming at the lake and I would wake up wet :( . Have there been any changes in his life? Look at things like that as well. I know he's small but talk to him and see if there is anything bothering him. Something very insignificant to us can be huge to them.
