Potty Training for Tiny Bottom?

We're ready to casually start the potty training process with my daughter because she has started communicating with us about her bathroom habits, and she really doesn't like the feeling of her diaper being peed/pooped. I plan on getting her a dolly that pees and a few books on the subject.
But now that I've started seriously looking into what kind of potty chair to get her, I'm a little confused and overwhelmed. My concern is that all the standard chairs are going to be way too big for her bottom! She is 16 months but is very long and thin, and has just recently graduated from 0-3 month size pants to 3-6 month size which are still a tiny bit big (Yet she wears 18 month size tops because of her length and head size, nightmare to shop for)!

Is there any training potty in the world that could fit her or do we need to put off potty training until she grows a little more around the waist?

What can I do next?

Here's a highly informative website you might find helpful. It gives a few variations on"readiness" checklists, plus tips on various training strategies used in various cultures around the world, the best ages to start them, and the advantages and disadvantages of each approach: http://www.parentingscience.com/potty-training-tips.html

Another thing you might be able to do with her is to teach her to crouch, though she might be a little young for this. But I know of a little guy who couldn't really poop sitting, but was able to stand on the toilet seat in a deep crouch and successfully poop.

Good luck!

You might try using a potty ring and having her sit backwards on the toilet. They seem more secure with less chance of "falling in" because their legs have to be wider apart to sit backwards.

You might try this product or one like it. (You may have to copy and paste the link). We used this one and loved it. I don't know if this brand is still available, but there are similar items available at Amazon.com.

I have two potties. The Cars Rev and go potty has a smaller pot with a removable rubber 'tire' cushion to sit on. You can close the lid and use it as a step stool, or remove the whole seat to set on the real toilet. Very useful but a pain and a half to clean with all the separate parts. They might make a girl's version. Our second potty is the Baby Bjorn. I like this by FAR the best. Nice back to rest on, pretty comfy, only two parts- a dream to clean, but for you I think the hole might be a little big. One up-side for you is that it comes w/o a box, so you could set her right on it in the store to see if she falls in. Target prices are much better than BabiesR Us, But Babies has a better selection. My advice is go to BabiesRUs and see if any fit her little bottom and then see if you can get in cheaper on Amazon. I have also heard that some drug-stores carry small portable ones that might fit the bill. I do not know this first-hand but you might give it a go!

If she is okay with sitting on the "big potty," try the Baby Bjorn seat that sits on top of the regular toilet seat. It's easy to lift on and off (for you) and has an adjustable dial underneath so it can be adjusted to fit securely on the seat (it doesn't wiggle at all, which can freak some kids out). My older daughter had a really skinny little butt when we potty trained her, and she never felt like she was falling in with the Baby Bjorn seat. Good luck!
