Potty Training Chairs

My 18 month old uses the Boon potty bench and The Baby Bjorn little potty. We also keep an extra Baby Bjorn little potty in the car for on the go pit stops.

My two year old son has been potty training for a while. I've tried numerous models (the ones we had for my daughter.) I finally bought a new one and it works really well. It is the Baby Bjorn potty chair. He will once in a while still "spray" out, but it is much better. I have also taught him to hold it down.

Initially I didn't want to have to clean out a potty, so got from Target the "SAFETY 1ST" seat with handles that places on an adult toilet ($9). It is good, but found that if you tell them to move back on the seat it does shift as well - the seat pad is comfy but like many, the urine gets trapped between the pad and plastic part of the seat. It is easy to clean though, just take the pad off and wipe with anti-bac wipe or rinse under the tap. Also I found he couldn't "brace" on anything for #2, so didn't relax enough - a stepstool probably would have remedied this. We also got a CHARACTER seat, which has no handles or plastic underneath...means no trapping between surfaces, so is easy to wipe as need be. It has a removable urine guard - I don't bother to use it - have taught him to point "it" down. If they sit in the centre it shouldn't be a problem. I got this for travelling.
I finally gave in and got a potty because he wasn't doing #2 all that often while sitting on the big toilet. I researched a little and knew I didn't want all the bells and whistles and I wanted something unobtrusive.
I got the GRACO SOFT SEAT TRAINER. The red bowl is easy to remove,clean and replace - it is large. It has a handle/pour spout. The outside is white - very sturdy when they sit on it. The lid comes down and can also be used as a stepstool. A big kid would probably break it, but it is sturdy. The seat has handles and a removable pad to use on a big toilet too. Same problem though as my first - urine gets trapped. There is a urine guard for boys - it's soft and removeable, I don't use it as he kept pulling it off and if you teach them to point down there is no need for it. I put a little water in the bowl which makes it easy to tip everything out into the big toilet. I let my boy flush the big toilet...this seems to be enough incentive for him..he doesn't react to gold stars or treats!! I would give this the thumbs up..I wish though that the removeable seat was made of the same stuff as the SAFETY 1ST - unfortunately that seat doesn't fit on the GRACO potty - that would be asking too much!

Hope you have alot of patience I have found potty training to be the hardest thing so far - take him every 20-30 mins, use a timer and buy lots of underpants - you'll need them. I use pull-ups when I'm busy, just in case I don't catch him in time...he's learnt he still needs to go potty when he wears these, initially he thought they were just like a diaper!!

Hi T., I am a child care provider(since 1996). In my experience with potty training, I found that the little ones do a lot better with the toilet ring on the actual toilet, then with the little potty seat. I have one that is a ring,potty chair, and a step stool. I just take the ring off and put it on the toilet and they use the step stool to wash their hands. They have all kinds of character potty rings at most department stores.

I highly recommend the "Peter Potty". It's an adjustable urinal and my son loves it! He was having lots of troubles with the potty training thing and as soon as he got this he has had no accidents and is just proud as can be about using it. You can find it on Walmart.com. (not found in the store).

I like the Baby Bjorn chair. The seat sits right on the regular toilet and it has a little potty guard up front for the boys.

The simple 9.99 Bjorn potty chair is EXCELLENT for boys. No REMOVABLE guard for them to take off and play with and also more comfortable than the blunt edged removable guards. Easy to clean since it's one piece molded plastic.

I agree. The Baby Bjorn is great, although I have the bigger one so it's a little more expensive. It's so much better than the others because there's no lifting the seat in order to get the "holder" out. You just pick up and dump....so easy!!!

The BabyBjorn is the best. I had another one that the guard kept falling off of and switching to the Bjorn seemed to help make a difference in getting him to go.
