We'll the subject says it all. We are ready to start pottytraining. Any suggestions would be helpful. I've started bringing her first thing in the morning when she wakes up but that's about the only time she will go and sometimes she won't even do that. So, please help!!!

What can I do next?

if shes only 20 months and doesnt really seem to want to go then she probably not ready to PT and you'd be better off just waiting till shes ready, besides shes not even 2 shes still really young

Our Pediatrician said to not push it too hard...that around 27 months is when they begin to show more interest in it. I know that sounds like too old, but my DD was doing the same as yours...going in the morning and a couple of times during the day if I continually asked her. We also did the treat method~stickers and sugar free M&M's. Now at 35 months, we usually only have accidents at night. Just remember Mom needs lots of patience when it comes to this challenge. Good Luck!

If potty training at 20 months is that important to you, obviously not to her, then you may want to try the good old bribary method. Put a jar of M&M's or her favorite candy on the back of the toilet. Every time she goes in the potty or even sits on the potty she gets a treat.
Some day cares say that in order to move to the next class that the child has to be potty trained. You could also use, if you want to go to Miss Tina's room you have to go on the potty. Miss Tina does not like accidents.
Good Luck.

I worked in the potty training room at a day care and we took them to the potty every hour. sometimes they went but sometimes they didn't. Then if they went we would reward them with a sticker but you could do a M&M or something that she likes. I know it's hard to do it every hour but it should work fast. I would also go to the store and let her pick out some panties and tell her that when she keeps her pull up (or what ever she is in) dry then she can wear her special panties. If she has an accident in the panties she probably wont like the feeling of being wet and hopefully that will help. I hope this helps!

Hi! I am a mother of a 3yr old girl and 4 yr old boy. I worked so hard on my son.. I didn't force him but worked with him. I would try it for a couple days and he didnt want to so I stopped. What we started doing was suckers everytime.. that worked till he was smart enough to try and tell me he did when he didnt to get one... so i resorted to the reward system.. i went to a website and printed out a train and got some thomas the train stickers.. i let him place them on the chart and he got a sticker.. he loved it... by the time i got him fully potty trained i was on my daughter.. she showed initiative and so we tried but then she stopped... so i just let her wear a diaper.. she was like 1 when she showed the want to... but i had to change daycares... so i started sending panties and pull-ups.. they were awesome.. she would do so good but at home a different story.. she would wet the pull-ups... so i did the whole reward chart.. it was so easy with her.. i thank god both my kids havent wet the bed ... there were occasions of stinking in the clothes but not often... i sure hope this helps.. you have to make it rewarding for her.. she will want to go to the potty.. once she does let her pick out her own panties... that is what i did with both my children and i was like dont you want to be a big boy or girl like mommie or daddie.. they loved it.

I just let it happen with my daughter. She got it at about 30 months or so. She just woke up and used the potty and hasnt turned back since. I do still put a pull-up on her for those occasional night-time accidents. I didnt push her to use the potty. At first I did and it seemed like the more I pushed the more determined she was NOT to use the potty. Good Luck!!

Our son was potty trained almost by accident. We bought him some pull-ups that were too small, so I told my husband I'd let my son run around that night... shall we say shotgun? All it took was once for him. The second I saw the stream I said, "NO! Nononono," and took him to the bathroom. He finished in the potty, and I made such a big deal about it, (not to mention that my son is all about doing things the way "big people" do,) that he took himself potty all the time after that. Well, almost all the time. He had some accidents, especially in public.

I guess most importantly is to see what makes Cali excited about going in the potty, and don't rush her too much. 20 months is still young, it might take a while. And be patient. It does take them a while to get the hang of it!

It sounds like she's not quite ready. Try waiting a couple of weeks and try again.
