hi everyone,i started potty training my son a week ago today and i am very happy that now he tells me when he needs to pee and hasn't done it in his pull ups, he even started pulling down his pants in the middle of the park because he said "i need to pee", and today is the first day he doesn't have an accident and wants to stand while peeing, the problem is that he doesn't want to have a bm in his potty or the toilet, the first day of potty training he didn't have one the second he did it in his underwear and the third day he did it in his potty but he has been very irregular and when i ask him he refuses to try doing it in his potty, today i was pretty sure that he needed to go and i told him lets try sitting in your potty and he said no but the moment i put on his clothes he did it, he has been very regular and has had a bm every day after breakfast but he just doesn't want to do it, i really need advice, please give me some tips or what you've done so he wants to do it. thanks

What can I do next?

Same deal with my son--no bm's in the toilet. He asks for a diaper to poop in and I put him in it. I figure this is his way of easing into independence so I'm going with the flow. He's great at asking to go pee so I'm cool with the diaper thing.

Hope that helps a bit.

I have the same problem with my daughter (who is 3) and she still doesn't want to have her bm in the potty. I was timing when she was going and had her sit on the potty but she won't go. Then she change when she had a bm. So I had to time it again. Well on day she will have a bm in the potty and I can't wait. Good luck. If you find something to work let me know.

How did you know your son was ready for potty training? From what I understand, boys are a little tougher than girls in this area so I was just curious cuz I have a little boy and I remember my stepson was REALLY hard to potty train. It's great that you get to stay home with your son and I"m sure that consistency will definitely help him. I"m looking forward to the potty training, but I'm sure he's not old enough or ready just yet. He's almost 21 months so we're getting closer! LOL!!! He does tell me AFTER he's had a BM. :)

It is very common for children to pee in the potty well before having a bm in one. For some reason, it is scary for children to have the bm in the potty and they prefer the diaper. Be careful not to pressure him for the bm in the potty, because he may "hold it" and become constipated.

My suggestion... Since we have and still are dealing with this...
Don't make a big deal out of it. If he goes in his pants, while you're changing him tell him how yucky that must feel and you'll get him all cleaned up. Clean him up and tell him how much better he must feel and maybe next time he'll go in the potty. Do this all in a very calm manner. He'll eventually give up and go!!

This is what we did for my son and he just one day asked to go on the potty. Then again, some days he still goes in his Pull-Up at nap times. But I tend to think that's becuase he likes his privacy, something hard to find around here on a normal basis!!

Don't worry it sounds like both of you are doing GREAT! "They" do say that it takes at least 6 months to full train during the day and twice as long if not more for at night! Keep up the good work!!

You could try to make a big deal when he has a bm in the potty. You could even try to sing when he is the bathroom. So he is more comfortable going. It worked for my oldest son. Not so much with my daughter. It is worth a try. Good luck.

I was having the same problem with my 2 year old daughter about a week ago. Peeing was not a problem, but getting her to have a bm on the potty was a problem. I went out and bought her Dora underwear, and explained to her that she couldnt "mess" them up or i would have to get rid of them. She had one more accident in her pants, got upset because she messed up her underwear, and now for the past week, she has been using the potty on her own. Maybe letting him pick out some underwear will help you too. :)
