I have a 3 yeard old daughter who is supposed to be fully potty trained. But recently in the past month or so she has been having accidents. She knows she has to go to the bathroom and dances around but doesnt want to go. I have to physically take her into the bathroom and sit there until she goes, or she wont go. Its not all the time only sometimes. One day she will go all day with know accidents the next she will have 3 or 4 in a day. I have seen her playing then get up go to the bathroom and go then go back to playing, then other times she will just dance around til she goes in her pants. I am so confused! Has anyone had any similar problems? I have taken her to the pediatrician to make sure she doesnt have a blatter infection or diabetes, and he said it was normal some kids juct go through an accident phase. HELP!! Please

What can I do next?

Hi T.! I'd have to say that I agree with the last two comments. My daughter did the same thing. She was fully potty trained around 3 and then a few months later started having accidents. The key is to not get upset or lose your patience with her. You don't want your daughter to feel like a bad girl. She probably is just having a hard time stopping her playtime to go potty. That was my daughter! :o) It will stop soon, don't worry. And when it does you might still have some small accidents every now and then. Good luck!

My daughter was 2 1/2 when she was completely potty trained and then when she turned 3 she began to have accidents every couple days until she was no longer going in the toilet on her own at all. She would randomly get up in the middle of the night to stumble to the bathroom to go to the toilet (so I knew it wasn't a physical problem)and never wet the bed or pooped in her underwear. We had nothing going on that would cause the regression. I still have no idea what happened. We just slowly started over by reminding her throughout the day (like we did when she started). Could she be wanting attention? Has anything changed in your lives (even seemingly insignificant things)? Just know that she will get through it and you won't have wet panties forever! My daughter is now 6 years old and although she still has accidents every once in awhile, most days I know nothing of her bathroom trips (meaning that she does it on her own).

Dear T.,

My great grand daughter did that very same thing. She was exactly your daughter's age when she started that. I think that they are so into being their own selves, that they want to control everything that they can. Also, going to the potty takes time away from what they are doing at that moment. Just use a lot of patience and show her where her dry panties are and have her wash out her peed in ones, and hang them up. Maybe she will realize that peeing in your pants isn't as convenient as she thought. Don't do a lot of fussing, just do. Don't tell her that babies pee in their pants, that isn't a good way to handle it. Good Luck, C. N.

T.- Hi my name is V. I have four children and I also run an at home daycare in San Lorenzo. When kids are playing and very interested in what they are doing the last thing that they want to do is go to the bathroom. Do worry this is normal. Maybe you can set a timer for every hour or so that way you can remember to remind her to try to go to the bathroom before she gets to the point of dancing around. Good luck! V.

Your daughter might be trying to get your attention. My almost 4 year old will ask us to go to the bathroom with her. It used to irritate me (and sometimes still does) because she would do it right when I was in the middle of changing her brother or feeding the baby or doing something I needed to do. I put it as her wanting attention and started spending some extra one on one time with her and she is fine now.
