Any suggestions on how to potty train a boy to pee? I've read start by sitting backwards on the little potty until he gets his aim. My son will be 2 in September and I'm trying to figure out how to do it.

What can I do next?

Hi B.,
My name is J.. My son was 2yrs 9m when he learned to go to the bathroom himself. It's been a while he's 11 now, I remember that we got him to just sit down on his own little potty seat. When he was tall enough to make it into the regular potty standing up we swiched to that. I hope you can us some of this to help you. Goot luck! ____@____.com

My cousin taught her son but putting cheerios in the toilet and having her son aim for them. I may try this with my baby boy when old enough.

Hi B.,

My first 3 boys I started by sitting them down and then when they were ready they stood up. My 4th one who is 21/2 refuses to sit on the toilet, he is scared. I have a step stool to the regular toilet and so he stands up on the step stool and then pees. This works the best for him. Mqybe 2 years is too early to start a boy. Who can try different ways and you will find what works best for him
All the best

Train him first sitting down and worry about aiming later.
There's so much to "get" to understand the whole potty training concept for toddlers--how it feels when you need to go, how to hold it, when to go, getting their pants up and down, telling someone they need to go--there's no need to introduce the concept of aiming until they older and more coordinated...

usually boys potty train later than girls. but... my first son was potty trained before he was 2. my second son wasn't potty trained until he was 3. my third son who just turned 2 aug. 11th. is pondering the idea. he wont sit on the potty, i give him a step and he stands in front of the toilet. i bought one of those seats that you set on the toilet. he sat on that yesterday for about 5 minutes looking thru a book(he squatted, i thought he had to poo, but nothing). he is showing signs he wants too, but i dont think he is ready yet. i have my best luck letting them go thru the house with nothing on, and telling them to go pee outside in the back yard. he actually told me he had to go and he went outside and peed twice. but if i put underwear on him he'll pee in that first and take them off and then go outside. but i've just been trying the past two days now. usually 2 is a little early for boys. but if he shows signs of interest, give it a whirl. also does he have a male to watch. that makes a big difference. its my 2yr old watching his 4yr old brother thats got him wanting to so early. good luck.
