My fouryear old son will not poop in the potty. He knows when he needs to go and he will still go in his underwear.I have tried everything I can think of.Even taking advice from people who dont have children.I never had this problem with my other two sons.
I had the same problem with my son years ago. I finally got him to poop on the potty by making him a rewards chart. He got a sticker everytime he went on the potty. After 5 stickers he got a reward ie. icecream sundae, small toy,...

Have you talked to your peditrician about your son's potty training? After working in a school for 12 years and part of that time with pre-schoolers, I know that most times it is a "power" battle but sometimes there can be an underlying medical problem that can be easily treated. I would speak with your pediatrician. Good luck!

Most important, don't pressure him. I read to my daughter or we listened to an Audio or book on CD....we keep a radio in the bathroom just for this. Our next conquest was to wipe herself (not until 5yrs old)- we purchase the Huggie's moist wipes to encourage her and of course, much praise! good luck!
ok my little girl had the same problem, i read the books to her and every other thing you could think ok beleive it or not the only thing that wrked was letting her go when she thought she was ready... it wrked i didn't pressure her at all and she finally went on her on i was so proud... just let him go when hes ready...
we had this problem also.. finally we told our son that the toilet needed to eat and drink just like us... the peepee being it's drink and the poop being it's food... it worked!! amazingly enough. :)

I don't know if you have try this already. Does he poop every day? and at about the same time of day? more or less? You could try making a schedule for him. If he goes poop at the same time more or less every day then you could make him sit on the potty , make him take a book or something to keep entertained while he waits until he feels he has to poop. Explain to him that if he poops in the toilet is better because if not he is not going to have any underwear left. You are not going to buy any underwear for him. What is he going to wear to go to school? Maybe just put 2 or 3 in his drawer and show him. This are the only ones left. maybe he won't like the idea of not having underwear left?.
Take a break. It helps when you are more relaxed and he will be too. Kids can get stressed too.

I had this same problem with my oldest son. This is going to sound weird, but the way I finally got him to start using the toilet was to let him run with no underware or diapers under his pants. He wears them now, but he didn't when he was potty training and that worked.
Check out www.pottytrainingsolutions.com, they have a lot of really good advise and products to try, we used the PODs that they sell when our daughter was having difficulty learning to go and they worked almost immediately, that may be something that you could consider.
