M.,

My son was potty trained when he was 2. I would start when you have time at home with them. If you work during the week, start on Saturday when you have all day with them. I would also start with your strongest twin who can grasp learning things faster. I practiced with him for a few months, you are probably already there. Before his 3rd birthday I just took my son's diaper once he understood mommy and daddy potty on the toilet. He wet himself a few times for the first couple of days. Make sure if you are out to have extra clothes, if they wet themselves. You might get frustrated, but be firm on telling them they "must go potty on the toilet". I told him if he listed to mama and went potty I would take him to toys r us. When he consistently pottied I did:) I still kept pull-ups on at night for 1 month. I would suggest when both twins are stable on the potty, then proceed with taking off the pull-ups at night. Before they go to bed have them go to the bathroom. I hope this helps, I tried everything and this worked well for me.

With both of my kids which my last one who isn't even 2 1/2. with both i said the "diaper fairy" was coming because its time to be a big girl or boy and did it COLD TURKEY. Just take the diapers away. both of mine were done with in 3 days. Let them pick out their own underwear and cushy seat or potty chair. There will be a lot of accidents but its probably the fastest and easiest.

Hi M.

Wow that is late to be training . You need to take the diapers or pull-ups off and go under wear and do not look back .
I just need to say some thing about what Pam said . A preschool does have the right to turn down a child who is not potty trained . It is not a public school you pay for preschool . A teacher does not have the time to be changing a diaper .

My very strong willed son is in the process of being potty trained also. He has been going before bath for about a month, but had no interest in going at any other time.

We basically went hardcore and "threw away" his diapers. He watched us do it and has been using the potty very well since. We still take him every 2 hours because he won't go on his own, but he has been dry for most of the week. (We do pull-ups overnight, but real underwear for the day.)

I hate pull-ups during the day because they can't tell they are wet.

My attitude toward potty training is not very popular, but here it is. I didn't care if my boys weren't potty trained until they were 18. At 18, legally my job is done. If they can find a girlfriend, she can help them. In the meantime, they can carry around a jaunty little diaper bag.

Both of my sons were late to potty train. They were both pooped trained about 9 months before they were pee trained. One day both of my boys just decided they wanted to wear big boy undies and use the potty. There was no magic wand or toy.

Bottom line, you can't control what goes in them or what comes out of them!

Preschools cannot legally bar them from attending b/c they're not potty trained. The law states the preschool must make "reasonable accomodations." Reasonable accomodations are that if they completelly soak themselves and/or poop, someone (a person you designate such as yourself and/or your husband) must be available to come to school and change them.

Good luck!

At almost 4, take the diapers away, put them in underwear, and tell them they go potty in the toilet now. No reason they can't understand that at almost 4.
