I have a two year old. I have been trying to get him to use the potty and he want. Anytime I ask him he screams and want even get on it. Everyone has told me he will go when he is ready and not to make him cause it will make it worse. The problem is he is so big that dipars and pull ups are getting to small, so I need to get him potty trained soon. Is there anything anyone can suggest for me try or should I just listen to everyone when they say he will go when he is ready, even if he has to wear overnight, which are out of my price range......

What can I do next?

J.---don't give up! I wouldn't force him to sit on the potty but asking him if he needs to go doesn't hurt. I found a website--pottytrainingsolutions.com that has all kinds of information from signs of readiness, how to get started and some reasons he may not want to go. I thought you might get be able to get some ideas to help you. I'm currently working with my 2 1/2 year old and she is doing pretty good-- She really started using her potty after I just let her run around the house naked (yes there were accidents but I expected them). I did find letting my son stand (on a stool) seemed to move things along quicker-- some people have their boys aim at cheerios to help them keep it in the bowl. Hope some of this helps. Good-luck, A.

Hey J.! I have a 17 month old son and he is showing interest in the potty, but his dad forced him to sit on the potty on like 2 occasions. Needless to say he now HATES the pot! He will not sit on the toilet. He is halfway ok with me holding him in front of the toilet. I would let him watch his dad when he went & I think his thing is that he doesn't want to sit down. Someone told me the other day that they have urinals for little boys!!! I think that will give that a try. I will let you know how that turns out.

Hi J.,

I have 3 boys ages 7, 5, and 2. My two oldest boys would not go on the potty or have anything to do with it until thier 3rd birthdays. On thier birthdays they both completely potty trained themselves. They hard an accient here and ther at night, but other then that they were done with pull-ups and dipars. Now my 2 year old is starting to show intrest a like bit now, but I know he is no where close to doing it.

Keep in mind I've always been told boys are much harder to potty ttrain then girls and everyone I've talked to the magic number seems to be age 3 :) So good luck and it will come sooner then you know.

My son will be 3 in November. I just started working with him on potty training last month. Prior to that he had been in pull ups, in the largest size (4t-5t), just due to his size and not because I was using pull ups to potty train. He gradually started telling me when he was wet or dirty and staying dry in his pull ups throughout the night. So I bought him his own potty and one weekend I put him in underwear and took him to the potty every 45 minutes. In two weeks time he was completely potty trained. On the other hand I have a friend who has a 3 1/2 year old who is still not completely potty trained. She started when he was 2 1/2, but he just resisted every step of the way. So she quit trying and started again after he turned 3 and was having more success. I have a hunch it may be too early for your Ethan, I have a hunch you will know when he is ready.
