My son is 18 months old and I know he's not ready to potty train yet but we wanted to go ahead and purchase the potty so he can become familiar with it and what it is before we actually begin. What kind of potty do you have? What do you ladies recommend? There seem to be alot of different kinds and I wasn't sure which is best so I thought I'd get some feedback first. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have always started my kids at about 16 months old. I have babysat and taken care of some many kids before having my own that I have leaned the best time to potty train them. The younger the better. If you wait to long to start potty training him it will be harder to do. I understand that all kids are not the same but one you start you can't stop this will only confuse him more. With both of my kids I went straight to big girl pants and big boy underwear it will take some time but they will get it. It took my daughter about two weeks from when I started to get the hang of it and my son it took about 3 weeks. The most important thing to remember is you don't want to go to many places when you first start out so that you can get them used to the idea of going on the potty chair or the big toliet. Hope this helps and good luck.

We got a potty seat when potty training out son, but he NEVER used it. He always sat on the "big boy" toilet and went. He just sat with his legs spread out. My 2nd is doing this also.
I like it cause I don't have to clean an extra potty and he wasn't shocked the first time he had to go out in a public place.

My sisters daughter would not use the potty, she was over 3 yrs. old. I don't know what the potty was called but I know she got it at Walmart, it looks like a slot machine and when you go in it it goes ding, ding, ding, you did it! Then they can pull the handle like on a slot machine, LOL! Worked wonders!

ok...my suggestion....and every kid is different. We got the seat that goes on the real potty. With our son (who is now 3 yrs old) we got the little potty that sings songs and such....he thought it was a toy and it was GROSS to have to clean. So we threw it away! Never tried it with our daughter(who is almost 2yrs old) just went straight to the little potty seat. The little potty seat is that goes over the real potty kinda padded with handles. They both use it plus it is better than trying to train them on the little potty chairs then retrain them to go on the big potty. They also make a little portable potty seat that folds in fours so when you are out in public. Hope this helps.
