I am having the hardest time trying to get my daughter to go to the bathroom. Can anyone offer any training methods that will be effective, she is 3 and is still in pull ups.

What can I do next?

My daughter was 2 when we started...her birthday is in Aug. I was frustrated at first but when i took her to my girlfriends house for babysitting she did not go pee pee in her pull up the whole entire day. I asked her what she did and she told me she used bribery! lol So then at home i started rewarding her with kit kats everytime she went potty..some people use m& m's or gummy bears. So from then on when she wanted a kit kat she knew she had to produce some pee pee in the potty...now since we started that she doesnt need a kit kat or anything to go potty, we just have to put her on every couple of hours. She never does poopies in the potty anymore so I belive we are well on her way. So I would try rewarding. Also we got dvd's and books on going potty. I belive they have something on sesamestreet.com about going potty. The main thing is to keep reinforcing "pee pee in the potty" We always sing a song about it to to make her smile and think its fun. Take care

I agree!! Get rid of the pull ups!!!!! I trained my daughter when she was two and did not get ANYWHERE with pull ups. Then my mother gave me this big speech about how she trained kids without pullups and it worked a lot better than what she saw me doing. I get rid of them, my daughter peed on herself a few times, didn't like it, and we were on our way to success!!! Of course I also put her on the toilet regularly to help her be successful. I just sat and read her books until she peed. Sometimes I felt like I was there for hours, but having her feel successful and getting the hang of it was all worth it. Good luck!

what J. j said is good it works, also what my parents did for me was after we ate (my mum kind of know my time table ) she would let me watch a show while i was sitting on the potty. so i would watch my one show a day while sitting on the potty and by the time i was done with the show i had gone pee pee.

also now after dinner my husband takes our son up to the bath room for his bath and the first thing he does is put him on the potty before he gets into the tub.

while i do the dishes.

hope this give you a little more of an idea.

Hi there,

I have 2--one on the verge of potty training, and a 3 year old. The pull-ups are a big problem b/c they act like diapers in wicking away the moisture from the little one's bottom. They need to feel the wet and the discomfort of a B.M. as motivation to get to the potty. In fact, in my kids' daycare center, they don't allow pull-ups, and as a result, they all potty train much faster. Of course, you'll have to deal with accidents, but studies show that pull-ups prolong the whole process.

Good luck!!!!

You need to get rid of the pull-ups. Put underwear on and take her to the potty every 20 minutes, she will have accidents, but within a week she will be asking you to take her to the potty. If you have floor rugs roll the up, if not just make sure you have white vinager, it take the smell off rugs. At night keep using the pull-ups until she masters the daytime. She will eventually ask for no more pull-ups at night. that's what happened with my 2 1/2 year old.
Good luck.
