Hello....My daughter is only 15 months old, and has started potty training herself already!! Its only maybe once a day right now, and lots of false runs to her potty...but none the less, we are extremley pleased she has started this herself. My question is, what can we use as a reward when she pee's in her potty? Other than the clapping and cheering, I'm at a dead blank at the moment. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for everyone's responses!!! We are trying stickers right now....but she's still off and on. She won't go one day, and then she'll go 2 or 3 times the next day....I'm not going to force it at this point, she's only 15 months....but trust me we will encourage!!!! If the stickers don't work...i have a feeling candy will!!!!

Thanks again for all the responses!!

You could try stickers. I did that with my first daughter because I felt bad that all we were doing was clapping. However...I think that's all they really need.

But when she became fully potty trained we took her to the store and let her pick out her first pack of "big girl" underpants. She was thrilled!

I just wanted to 2nd the sticker idea. Worked like a charm with my now 4 year old. Just pick up several sheets of ones that you know she'll love (shiny and sparkles are always a good choice)

I've done daycare for lots of kids in training and I found the smallest kind of candy, sugar free if you can find it, and they got one candy when they would go in the potty. I also used the opportunity to teach them colors at the same time. If you object to candy, stickers or stars are great and you can make a chart or just a spot where she can put them on herself. Good luck!

What I did with my kids is when they went in the potty we gave them stickers. We went to the store and let them pick out what stickers they wanted. When they used the potty, we let them pick out a sticker. It took a few months to get to the point where they used the potty all the time. But the stickers really did the trick. With my son we also put cereal in the potty for him to 'sink'. He absolutely loved that.

My daughter-in-law uses stickers with my oldest granddaughter she is 30 months old.
Is your daughter actually wee-weeing in the potty chair? The reason I am asking my son who lives with me has a 21 month old daughter and she will sit but no luck in actually going.

Well what my husband and I did for my step-daughter is give her a couple pieces of her favorite candy. Her favorite candy is skittles. When she did #1 she got 2 skittles. When she did #2 in the potty she got 4 skittles. It worked like a charm!!!! Just remember to brush her teeth 3 times a day and really good at bed time!!!

Hope this helps!

J.,
When my children were potty training, everytime they would go to the potty we would go to Wal-mart and let them pick out their new "undies", had a blast and eventually had enough undies that when it came time to actually wear them we didn't have to worry about buying any. Good Luck

That's really great that she's started herself so early! What we did with my daughter was start a sticker board. Everytime she went she would get to pick a sticker and put on her board. We also told her that if she keeps it up we would take her shopping for big girl panties, and she would get to choose them herself. That really motivated her and made her feel like a big girl.

Put a chart on the wall. Each time she goes, let her place a sticker on the chart. When she get to a certain amount, she gets to have an ice cream sunday, or a trip to the park, or a date with mommy and daddy to a fun restaurant. this will involve her more and prompt her to go more so she can get a new sticker.

Does she >need< anything else? My daughter has also just started potty training herself (18 months now, got real interested around 15 months). All we have to do is smile and hug her and she's perfectly happy with that. She feels proud of herself just because we do that.

My son was the total opposite. I swear the happier we were about it, the more he resisted. None of the normal stuff worked: stickers, candy, charts, etc. We finally hit the jackpot after rewarding him 10 minutes of PS2 time for every pee or poop in the toilet. He was 3.5 and we were desparate for anythign that worked at that point!

STICKERS!!!Kids love them. I have a zip-lock baggie with lots of diffrent ones in it. Set up a Sticker board (piece of poster board works great) and let her pick one out and put it on the board as a reward. It's great to see how many she gets. You could even set up a reward after she gets so many stickers. My son wanted a special toy, so I told him if he had ten days with no accidents, I would get it for him. We have a sticker board with ten boxes, he gets a sticker for each day he has no accidents (we're on day 4 and it's going well). Good Luck, and God Bless <>< J.
