Potty Training - Goodrich,MI

No reason not to take a potty chair with you in the car. I've thought about buying a second one just for that reason!

Besides having her go before you leave home, I'd say try to bring along some kind of potty chair for her to go in when this happens. She is very young to be totally trained in any case!

You said it, put a potty seat in the car. I did this, when I was taking long trips with the kids. I think they liked it better than stopping at a gross rest stop anyways :) Just make sure you clean it out when you get home ;)

You are getting a lot of advice saying to put her on the potty before you leave...let's be realistic...they are toddlers and they don't go on command. I put my son on the potty before we leave all the time and he doesn't go. Low and behold two minutes down the road we have an accident. I have seen the portable potties that fold up at Babies R Us and you might be able to find them at Wal-Mart. If we are driving long distance I do still put my son in a pull-up though.

We have a portable potty/trainer seat for my two-year-old son and love it! It's very small and fits into a small back pack - we take it everywhere. You can set it up in your car, but can also use it on public toilets, so your daughter is sitting on something clean. It was definitely worth the $18 to us.

Seriously we did have one in our car for many years. I bought a potty like the one in the potty video. At the time (10 years ago) the only one I could find was a Bjorn but now I see they have them at the dollar store. It is really small and plastic and the kid kind of straddles it. If we were out in the middle of no where, we would just stop, put the potty on the seat and let them go. I would dump when I got home and yes it did smell at times but sure beat having my boys pee on the nearest tree. If we were by a gas station, rest stop, I would just take it in and clean it. We had three kids in five years many years ago; there were a few years there where we did just what you said - carried a potty chair in our van!! It seems that during those years, we always seemed to have someone who was on the potty train or just with three kids, somebody always had to go to the bathroom! And being in the boonies, you are right, MacDonalds is not around the corner. As her mom you want her to be successful! I agree with always trying to go before you leave the house but also understand that sometimes nature calls at the most inopportune time!

You answered the question yourself! Put the potty chair in the car. :) I have done that with some of our kids and I have had friends that have too. This is a much better way to go than have her wear a pull-up and her have an accident in it. When your potty training every little thing that you can do to help the child feel successful is important. It may only be needed for a while. The important thing is that she feels like you are standing behind her helping her with this sometimes not so easy task of learning the "potty routine".

I have the One Step Ahead portable potty that Karina mentioned. I bought it "just in case," but we never needed it. My kiddo seems to have a great bladder. Anyhow, it's brand new, never even opened the package. It's yours if you want it. I'm happy to send it to you. Just let me know. L.

so, why not try the potty chair in the car? Try a potty chair in the back with the mini trash can liners so I can wrap everything up.just pull over when she needs to go. its a pain, but not as much as cleaning the carseat.

Um... aren't diapers to keep the upholstery dry?

If stopping for a pee-break on the side of the road is impossible in your mind, just put her in a diaper for the trip. No biggie.

One Step Ahead sells a travel potty seat that folds up into a briefcase. It works really well, and it uses gallon ziplock bags, so they can be sealed right up. I have heard people putting a maxi pad or kitty litter into the bottom to absorb. Just keep in mind that this doesn't last for very long. They get better and better at holding it.

You may laugh, but we carried a potty chair in our car when our daughter was learning to use the potty. We took it on long car trips when there was no rest area or gas station in sight, and often just pulled over into a parking lot or highway exit. It may seem cruel in this cold weather, but maybe she will then get the message and learn how to hold it. Good luck!!

I was going to suggest the potty chair in the car. One Step Ahead also has a blow up potty chair for your vehicle.

Yes, potty in the car is not a far fetched idea! I've done it, especially for long trips. But also, I always keep a pull up in the car for 'emergencies', when I don't have the potty (for shorter trips). My daughter would be wearing her 'big girl underwear', but in an emergency, I've pulled over, put a pull up on her, let her go in that, cleaned her, & changed her back into her underwear, disposed of the pull up & we were ready to roll again! Everyone's happy!

We DO keep the potty chair in our car! However when our daughter says she needs go to the bathroom, we tell her we will pull over as soon as it is safe. We usually wait a few minutes and then pull over (side of the road, driveway, parking lot). At first she used to ask to go non-stop, but she progressively got better as we made her wait and did not pull over immediately.

Actually, keeping a potty chair in your car with some wipes is a great idea!! You can just throw out the pee after she's done. Good luck!! :)

put the potty in the car thats what my mom always did plus i have seen other moms do it especially in the summer at the park, just have extra wipes grocery bags for garbage and sanitizer

I dont know how long your daughter has been trained..

But my daughter only needed to use the potty every hour for about 2 weeks.. then we went to using the potty every 2 hours.. and now she goes morning noon evening and bedtime and we have no accidents..

So,... I dont know how long you are out and about during the day.. but if your daughter uses the potty before you leave home... she should be able to make it for 1 hour... and if you go to a store or such place make her go again before you start home...

But you should be aiming to increase the time between potty breaks so you are not constantly running her to the potty.

I do not believe in pull ups.... my daughter calls them panty diapers.. we went right to cotton panties.

If your daughter is ready to be potty trained she should be able tokeep her cotton panties dry..

she is very young... 22 months is very young to be trained.. if it is not working and you are frustrated wait and try again in a month.

It really is easy if the child is ready.

We always go before we leave the house and if we are out shopping for a while before returning home we will hit the restroom at the store. I have seen people carry a potty chair in their car and that was going to be my suggestion to you. Good luck.

This may sound obvious but always put her on the potty before you go out, even when she says she doesn't need to go. My youngest always tells me he doesn't need to go but I insist and he usually squeezes something out lol.
Also, put a potty in your car so you can just pull over and let her go when she needs to. You can get portable potties that fold up and you put a little bag liner in it so you can just throw the bag out, but not all kids like them because they are not the most comfortable to sit on. One of my boys refused to use it because he said it was not comfortable but the other was fine with it. If you have a minivan and have the room I'd say use a regular potty seat.
This won't go on forever and she may actually be using the potty training as a way to get attention but you have to always let her try to go when she says she needs to. The bladder control will come soon enough.
