Hi everyone. I'm having trouble getting my 2 y.o. to go poo-poo in the potty. She has been completly trained for peeing in the potty for almost 7-8 months now but shes not interested at all in doing her poo-poo in the pot. She won't come to me to let me know that she needs to go until after she's already messed on herself. Is there any help or advice on what to do to speed this process along?

What can I do next?

My daughter doesn't always know/tell us she has to poop, but goes on the potty...We have to read a lot & have other distractions to keep her on there long enough (otherwise she'll pee & be done). Also, we put her on any time we hear tooting. She wasn't gong on the potty at day care, but as soon as I realized that she wasn't reading there and was getting off too soon, we got her a book and it solved the problem.

Hi C., I have a two and a four year old (both girls). Hopefully this will help. A lot of times we refer to Poo-poo as yucky, or stinky so sometimes toddlers feel ashamed. I think that is why some toddlers hide when they poop and just tinkle right in front of you. One thing you could try is to leave the bathroom and just kinda peek to see if anything happens.Even us adults like a little privacy when performing this task.My four yr old liked sitting on the big girl pot like mommy, so I got her one of those little seats you put on top of the toilet so she wouldn't fall in, You could also try a kiddie step stool under his/her feet on the big potty.

Don't know if it will help you. But, I'm right there with you. I have 2 yr old twins & my girl won't poo-poo in the potty. She will tell me & ask for a pull-up, but is scared to go poo-poo, because she is mostly constipated & it hurts. Well, last night we had a breakthrough!!! So, maybe it will help you: We went to Wal-Mart Saturday & let the kids ride tricycles in the store & act like we were going to buy them, them we changed our minds & told them we will later. After we got in the car we started talking about going poo-poo in the potty. Well, all day we said we were going to buy the trike for our boy, but not the girl, until she goes poo-poo in the potty. Well, it took about an hour of sitting with her & reading & talking & her not happy about it, but she did poop in the potty last night & it was the big potty & she finally heard it go "plop, plop, plop". She then got up and asked to go buy the trike!!! I told her tomorrow.
So, maybe some kind of big prize would entice your sweetheart.
I hope mine will continue this.
