I am a single first time mother, and am when I should start to potty train my son.. He is seventeen months old and i have already bought him the potty but I have no clue how to go about it. In the mornings when i know that he is going to have to go pee i take him and put him on the potty and he'll pee in there and sometimes I will let him run around without out a diaper but i dont think that understands what the potty is suppose to be used for. Could he just be too young. I will tell him to go on the potty and he will walk in the bathroom and sit on it but look at like what is this... am i starting him too early or what other options should i try to make him atleast aware of the potty and what its for.

I did the same thing with my son, I would take him first thing in the morning and he would go, so I kind of gave up and then a few months before his third b day he started to go on his own... I think you have to wait until they are ready, let them know what the potty is for and when they are ready they will let you know... Hope this helps...

I would say do what you are doing in the morning by putting him on it right way. First it will get him in the rutine to go first thing. I would also try right before bathtime to put him on there that is how I started my kids. He is still very young so do not freat it yet but doing those 2 things will get him used to the idea.

You are getting a great start. I would continue with the morning potty routine. You may want to put him on the potty before his bath while the water is running. He is probably not ready for full force potty training yet, but do not think he doesn't understand what the potty is for. Children are smarter than we think.

I think he's too young. He may show interest but doesn't mean he's completely ready and able to control his muscles yet. I put the potty out at 18 mos for our daughter but she really didn't show any control late into her 2nd year. Once she got it, she got it, it did take a lot patience and accidents I had to deal with, but once I made my mind up that OK. I realized I wanted it for more myself than for her.
