Hi, my 2.5 year old is doing really well using her potty as long as she is naked from the waist down. If she has underwear on or loose pants, she wont use the potty. If she's naked, she will use the potty 100% of the time. We have done one out of the house trip wearing underwear (about 2 hours) and she did great until we got home when she promptly peed her pants. She is able to pull down her pants and underwear, but will only do so after shes had an accident. I keep asking her when shes clothed and not in a diaper if she needs to go potty and she always says no. Ive told her to tell me so I can help her get her pants down, but she doesnt until shes had an accident. Does anyone have any advice on how to ease this transition? I dont want her to feel badly about having accidents, but I dont want to prolong it either. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I'm training my 2 1/2 yr old son right now, and I've set the timer in the kitchen to go off every hour... that is the prompt to go into the bathroom. It seems to work, gives him more control and I don't need to do the initial nag to make it happen :) Good Luck!

My grand daughter is being potty trained as well and I put a dress on her, so that she is not exposed, but can easily hike it up to sit on her potty. Seems to work quite well. They still are young and I do not push the issue anyway.

Tracy's advice is right on. the only thing I would suggest is to TELL her its time to try. Don't ask if she needs to.

You're right, potty training is frustrating but you can't let them see it. I agree with the taking them to the bathroom every hour to "try". I have quickly trained three kids and here is my method (messy sometimes); 1.Keep doing what you're doing. 2.Have her wear stretchy pants and undies everywhere 3.Bring extra clothes and a potty seat in the car and plastic bags for messies. 4. Be ready to do lots of laundry. She will connect wet underwear with the sensation of having to pee really soon if you give her a chance. I recommend keeping diapers on at night for a while. One step at a time.... hope this helps and good luck. -M.
