Hi S.,
Is your little guy ready to be potty trained? Is he showing signs he's ready? Just make sure he's ready, even though you are, because if he's not, it may not work.
We waited till my son was about 3 and 4 months old. We did try to start with him earlier, but it just wasn't working. Consistency is the key, just as the other moms have mentioned. And you will need tons of patience! Have your son choose the potty chair and have him get familiar with it. He can play with it and get comfortable. Make potty training fun and exciting. We rewarded our son stickers everytime he managed to go 'pee-pee' or 'poo-poo' in the potty. Make it a very big deal when he does go and that will encourage him to go even more. It even helps to make up a cute little 'potty' song that is simple and catchy enough for him to remember. And if you can, while you're potty training him, stay home with him because you consistently want to do this everyday for about a week or two. And once he's ready to take trips to the store with you, bring the potty chair with you in the car and have him wear training pants. One more thing, there's a great DVD called, "Potty Power." and you can buy it online. It's worked wonders for our son, because real kids are on this DVD, showing you how to go potty, washing hands after going potty, learning that going potty means your a 'big kid now'.
Happy Potty Training!
