I just posted a similar question today. My daughter trained at 24 months perfect now at 26 months she is 100% back in diapers. We did go on vacation for a week, but we brought her potty with us, so no big changes but maybe it was enough to throw her back into diapers. My daughter will kick and scream if I suggest or try to put her back into panties. I am going to leave her in diapers for now, but I am sort of wondering what to do too. Maybe you could read my request and the suggestions too.

My daughter had a surgery at 3 yrs & 2 mo so I didn't push the issue knowing that she would need the diapers and would revert anyway. Prior to the surgery she would use the potty sometimes and knew what it was for but it wasn't important to her. After the surgery she took to it like it had never been a problem. Very few accidents and no bedtime accidents either. Maybe she just needs a bit longer?????

Hi. I have 2 older boys (now in their 20's) that never had an issue with potty training.... but my daughter was a nightmare...
The only thing that we found that would work was a vcr tape (I would think they would now be out on disc now...? -thanks for the age check there...;) )
anyhow, it was a tape called Once Upon A Potty and they are made for both genders. It was a life saver! In fact, she would watch it over and over again even after she was completely potty trained...
HTH and let me know if you need me to find it with "the author" and such.... I know I just saw it somewhere the other day.... :)

you can not win this battle.

If the child does not want to cooperate and use the potty then she will not..

she is 2 1/2 so she is probably pretty negative about everything right now.

Try waiting a month and try again.

They have to want to use the potty... or you will just fight about it.

Have there been any changes at your house? Did it start right after you told her about the pending arrival of the new attention hog (aka baby)? She may just be showing YOU that she's still the baby.

Not all kids potty train at the same rate. If she is doing it at daycare, but not at home ask the daycare what their bathroom schedule is. Do they take them every hour or so?

There are a lot of questions not answered. Does she refuse to go on the potty for you, then go when she gets off? Is it accidents at night? Is it pee, poop, or both that she is refusing to go.

Going to the potty is really the only thing that kids at that age have any control over. Is it a control issue with her?
Is she still in pull ups or underwear?
Sorry I am asking more questions than giving advice... But to figure out the problem the motivation must be figured out...

we have a similar situation...my daughter started at 18 months and did great for a long time...now she refuses to get on the potty a year later! it's very frustrating! she would go at daycare no problem, but not at home...then she started refusing at daycare too...

we decided (the daycare & us parents) to go underwear only for a week...it's backfired!! she's mad and more angry w/ the potty! she also took off her pants and pooped on the floor! she's never behaved this way! so we've gone back to pull ups and will let her train at her own pace...

no advice for you - sorry...just know you aren't alone!!

All children train at different times and stages depending a lot on what is going on in their lives. I would ask daycare what kind of schedule they have her on. Most likely it's a peer pressure thing at daycare (other kids are doing it, you can, too) and at home she figures it's the best way to get attention from you even though it may be negative attention. I would decide once and for all if you are going to put her in underwear, diapers or pull ups. If you keep switching her it could be confusing. Maybe underwear during the day then pull ups at night. I myself would go the pull up round for awhile. She is still young and may not have the initiative to impress you yet. When she decides to be trained it will be like switching on and off a light, very quick. She could be expressing her fears over a new member of the family, too. Give her reassurance that she is loved no matter what and show her an overabundance of praise when she does use the potty and little or no attention (ie: don't talk to her, don't look her in the eye, etc.) other than just changing her/cleaning her up when she misses. If you do have her in underwear and she poops in them I would make her clean her underwear in the toilet. (Watch her closely, though, so she doesn't flush the underwear. It's a bear to get out of the toilet once it's flushed. My son did that...) I would give her moderate praise for trying to use the potty, too. Eventually it'll happen at home and you'll be on to the next challenge that comes up. Raising kids is one challenge after another. The only thing that changes is the nature of the challenges before you.

Good luck - S.

I would either put her back in diapers and try again after the baby is 3 or 4 months old. Maybe she just isn't ready yet. My son is 3 and just now traing and still doesn't have it down.
