I don't think you are rushing things at all by talking about this. I started with my six year old VERY early about how to wipe. We even made up a song about it so she would remember the "front to back" routine for wiping when going pee pee. As for the other situation, obviously its better to go from the back. Thats super hard to learn. You just have to keep supervising and practicing with them. With the girls its so important to get this down to avoid infection and such. Once your little one starts preschool or kindergarten you are not around and its good to have allready laid down the good practice before then! Good Luck!

I waited about 6 months to a 1 year from the time they potty trained to teach them, unless they wanted to do it themselves.

A.--have four kids--14 down to 2 1/2 and I think I have done something different for each one. Wiping is hard for little girls. They really should wipe from the back and that is harder. It is also hard to teach. I would do it that way though, because it will prevent very uncomfortable infections. I would start by using some sort of wet flush-able wipe. I think that it is easier to get clean with that. I would start her once she wears underpants all of the time. Begin by having her do it while you watch, then check after she has wiped, and then you can let her go and take care of herself once you are comfortable with the hygiene. I have found that once I am no longer cleaning up either diapers or accidents in the underpants--I am happy to continue a bit of supervision in the potty!! Hope this help....

My daughter was trained at just over 2.5, and soon after I taught her to "pat, pat, pat" herself dry. Then, at 3 we taught her to do "front to back." She does really well; except I always double check with a flushable wipe when she does #2.

Still too early for that. Especially for a girl when wiping the wrong way can cause tons of problems for her like UTIs, yest infections, etc. My daughter wasn't fully wiping herself till she was 4yrs old. And that was still with supervision at home off and on just to check that she was doing it right since they were on their own at Pre K.

Good luck!

When my son potty trained last year it was a stop and start thing for a month or so. When he began in earnest it was the expected progression of urinate first and then he began to poop in the potty. At first it was as if he held his bowels and didn't know what to do. When he did begin to go in the potty we spent a couple weeks just getting him okay with going on the toilet and once he appeared to adjust at all we would do the wiping then ask him to do it after us. After just a few times he would wipe with us there coaching. Soon he was handling the task on his own. At times he may ask for help but it is rare. Hope this helps.
