Peeing on Cheerios! A stepstool up to the big potty & Cheerios in the water to aim at is what taught a friend's son.
My son just didn't feel like learning until he was over 4. Maybe he's just not ready...
My 3 yearold isnt potty trained or even trying. About a year ago I bought him a potty chair, and it had a splash gaurd that fell down, and he went to sit on the potty the splash gaurd fell down, and cought his scrotom and pinched it really bad, since thing I have bought him a new potty chair that is nice and soft. It cant hurt him I made sure of that. But he refuses to sit on it, so we have tried just using the big potty he refuses to do that, anyone else been through this, or just have any ideas of what I can. I would like him to start preschool next school year, and I need him potty trained by then. Please if you can help I would love to hear any ideas. Thankyou.

Could you give him a stool to stand on so he could stand, aim at a piece of paper, and potty train that way? No worries about anything getting pinched that way. He could even draw and color little things to aim at on a piece of notebook paper, and you could cut them out for him so that he had good motivation to go potty and aim well. Good luck!
Start him standing up. Either put fruit loops in the toilet for him to sink with his stream, or take him outside to use the tree.
Have you tried the soft insert that fits into the big potty? What a traumatic event! Poor kid! Good luck!
I lived out in the country when my 3 year old was trying the potty thing. I had an older son that taught him how to squirt trees. He had a lot of fun learning how to control his bladder and aim. It didn't take too long for him to squirt in the toilet after that.
Not all preschools require complete potty training. Some schools just require "potty learning", which is a pretty broad category which basically means they should know what a potty is and use it sometimes.
You might try some peer modeling, if you have a friend with a son who is about your son's age or a little older, that other child could show your son how to potty. Honestly, that is about the only thing that gets my DD to go potty. She fights like a banshee at home, but happily goes when the other kids do at school. So we are pull-ups at school and diapers at home.
Good luck!
My son started showing interest in the potty around 2 and I thought it was great, since I was expecting and would like to have him out of diapers. Problem was, it was just that passing interest that many toddlers get, and he wasn't ready. Still I pushed and we ended up with a year and a half struggle to get him trained. He is very strong willed and, guess what, kids will always win on this battle.
Finally, at 3 1/2, I gave up and put him back in diapers (not pull-ups, but real diapers, they cost less and he was just going in them anyway). I told him that big boys get to play video games (an activity he loved) and big boys go potty. I made no other mention of the potty except that, when he asked for video games. Did this for a few months, and then suggested he go potty, but with no pressure. Finally, about 2 months after his 4th birthday, he decided he was ready to go potty. It took about a week and he was completely out of diapers.
So I'd back off, put away the potty chair, and buy diapers for another 6 months or so. It'll be much easier in the long run.
reading your responses I wish my daughter were a boy, I think she would LOVE squirting fruit loops in the toilet! lol...I plan on just having her run around naked for a week and hopefully it will work. I haven't been able to make myself do it yet though. I know it will take a lot of energy on my part as well.
I ask my dd who had started training why she doesn't want to go potty and she says "I know mommy, I know I'm getting bigger, but I have pull ups and I love them and its okay and in a little while I will go potty"
kids. gotta love them!
Hi B.!
I agree with the previous responses on trying stading up first. There's a cute toddler urinal called Peter Potty which my son loves--you can get it at Walmart. :)
