Hello,

I just did the 3 day potty training method with my 25 month old twins and it has worked miracles for my daughter. She is able to tell me when she has to go pee and poop no problem. My son on the other hand will tell me when he is pooping but always goes in his underwear, not on the potty. We keep sitting him on the potty to try and finish as soon as he tells us and have him flush but he hasn't seemed to have gotten it yet. We also keep reminding him to tell us BEFORE he has to go so he can go poo poo in the potty. He knows that's where it belongs because if asked where poo poo goes he says the potty. Does anyone have any ideas how to get him to tell us before he start?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks all for the support. My son has mastered the potty now! I caught him starting to poop in his pants one day, ran him to the potty and ever since he has been telling us before he needs to go and making it in time. I couldn't be prouder.

my 3 yr old boy was resistant to pooping in his potty he peed in there without a second thought. finally i made him clean his underwear himself and that did it for him lol. try having a treat for him when he goes to the rest room a different one for pee and poo and make the treat for poo something you know he enjoys and if he goes in his pants let him know since you went in your underwear you wont get......good luck doll

Did he have any issues at birth? Were they premies? Remember, girls typically do the potty thing earlier than boys. It may be that he hasn't figured out the difference between pooping and gas, as far as how it feels to him.

It will take time and in the meantime you will be taught patience. I can only suggest that you try to get your son on the toilet at about the time that he goes and try to get him to relax. Once he goes it should help him know what it feels like. Emotionally girls are about 6 months ahead of boys for a while.

I don't have an idea on how to get him to tell you before hand, however I tried telling my son that the poop goes to the poopoo party in the toilet. I made it sound like it was fun. I sang poopoo on the potty.... poopoo on the potty... yeah!!!! After my son would poo i would tell him they are going to the poopoo party. He would get excited and want to flush so they could go.

Just and idea.
hope that helps some.

best wishes.

That's great about your daughter! You're lucky! My gut tells me your son may not be ready for this yet. They are only 25 months old - very young for potty training if you ask me. I think it's ok to start that young, but I certainly would not expect all children to get it that young without lots more practice. Have patience with him. My son wasn't fully potty trained until he was 4. Granted we started later than you, but it still took him over a year to fully get it. My daughter, on the other hand, was fully trained just a couple weeks after we started on her. I've heard, and experienced, that boys take longer. Good luck!

He sounds developmentally right on track. That's what kids do as they learn to use the potty and control their muscles. That's one of the steps they go through. They tell you as or after they are going. So he's just not ready yet to be considered totally trained, but he's definitely on his way. So don't discourage him by telling him he's doing it wrong or comparing him to his sister. Tell him he's doing a great job and continue on. And don't go back to pull ups! If you can't take the mess, get reusable cloth trainers. Let him feel wet!

First off, congrats! That's way early for most children to even be sonewhat potty trained. Boys are more difficult, and he just might not be ready. My son wasn't able to poop on the potty til he was closer to 3, and he was going potty quite a bit before. Really praise him when he does go on the toilet, but also try to have him sit for a bit @ the same time every day. My son goes religiously at about 8:30 every morning, so I had his sit on the toilet @ this time every day. Good luck!
