So,

First off, I know it depends on when they are ready, I have been potty training in centers for years, but I have never encountered this...

Right now my oldest is three. And we have been working on potty training for awhile. He has got pee down to a Q. He goes when he needs to and I don't have to remind him at all. He does wear diapers still for nap and bed time but he is usually dry when he wakes up. Other then that hes in big boy undies. How can I help him go poop? We have a sticker system, and toy car system, a candy system. (Sticker for pee, toy car for poop, and a piece of candy if he goes all day with no accidents).

He knows when he needs to go, he just has a problem sitting on the potty to do it. He usually runs in a different room and then comes in the room I'm in laughs and says mommy I'm poopy. We have a babybyjorn, that stays in the living room, and then there's a potty seat on the bathroom that he can use when he wants to. Hes watched daddy, so he doesn't even want to sit unless he has something to read, so I have put books in there that he has access to. I dont know what else to try. I would really like to get him potty trained, because he wants to wear his undies.

Any advice is helpful. Thanks

I agree with below, if you know that he is regular and does the "poopy" like clockwork at a specific time make sure you get him to sit on the potty during those times. Unfortunately, it is also about when they are ready...My daughter took forever to potty train and now just recently within a two week period my son who just turned three is completely potty trained day and night...Go figure!! Just be consistant and positive encouragement. He will do it when he is ready.

Does he have certain times of the day that he goes? Try making sure that he is on the potty during those times. Also, maybe go in there with him? We sit and talk, sing, read books, and my son just goes when he has to.

Don't know if he is constipated and maybe holding in his poop, then strains to poop which created a vicious cycle for the little ones. I recommend the book "It hurts when I poop". Even if this isn't his issues I think it might help him understand why he poops and why pooping on the potty is important. Good luck to you.

A mom friend of mine told me... that her son had the same problem. Her Doctor told her... that sitting on a toilet to poop, versus standing up (like how a kid may do it usually because they only know how to go in diapers or while standing up all their life since walking age)... Is that it uses different muscles....
so, a child MAY not "know how" to poop, sitting... .on s toilet.
So what she did is... even if in a diaper... she tried to 'practice' with her son... squatting and doing it... or prodding him to sit while he poops etc. UNTIL he got consistent in it and comfortable pooping that way.
THEN... he then, knew how to poop... but on a toilet.

all the best,
Susan
