Potty Training - Dallas,TX

I have a daughter who will be 2 in December and I cannot get her to stop taking off her diaper. Sometimes it is wet or dirty and sometimes it's not at all. She usually rips it off and ends up going 5 minutes later on the floor. I have tried putting her in pants and she takes them off. Even tried one piece outfits and she manages to free herself from those as well. I am currently trying my hardest to potty train my 3 year old daughter so she does see us go to the bathroom often. When my older daughter goes potty my younger one must go with her and sit on her little potty. But she has never gone in it and then 5 minutes later goes on the floor. So I don't get the impression she is ready to potty train yet.

Also, I cannot get my 3 year old to stop pooping in her pants. She does very well peeing in the toilet but will not poop in there. Any advice on both of my potty fiascos would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

well, there is no reson to keep your little one's pants on, she's just 2, if she really wants them off, let her. You can get her "special pant" My 2 year old son loves ducks, so when he is being uncoperative, I put him in his duck pants. she is obviously trying to tell you that she is too old for diapers she is not too young. My son has been diaper free since a month old. Potty books are good too. do not punish yell, or comment in any negative way (even saying "yuck!") when she has an accident, that will worsen the situation. just correct her behavior. good luck.

K.,
I have no advice on the little one, but on the 3 year old I do:-) We would do a cold rinse/shower (depending on your bathroom set up) when my son would poop or pee in his pants (after he had been going for a while like your daughter). We would reward him with hotwheel cars (because they were a $1 each) when he would poop on the potty, but when he wouldn't he did get a cold rinse (consequences for his actions - not punishment - don't be mad about it, just that this is what we have to do when he poop in his pants). He definitely would scream like we were beating him and that was hard to take at first, but that was just drama:-) It works. Keep at it, and it will work. He is now telling us that he needs to go potty and does everything on the pot. We haven't had an "accident" in a long time.

Good luck!:)

Not sure what to say about the two year old except that she has mastered taking off the clothes which is a great skill! But, my son could pee in the potty before he would poop in the potty even though he knew how. He would get m&ms for peeing in the potty and suckers for pooping in the potty. Well, we told him no more suckers until he pooped in the potty. He would then poop a little in the potty to get a sucker and then finish in his pants. Not kidding! So, then we told him that if he had an accident then he had to poop in the potty 2 times in a row with no accidents to get a sucker. It only took one time for him to poop in the potty with no reward for him to never have an accident again. So, find something to motivate her to want to poop in the potty. That is what worked for him! The power of a dum dum. LOL!

Hi K.,
Well my vote is that she is not yet ready for potty training but has a great new skill of removing pants! You can laugh but my first son did this and I ended up going to Sam's and buying a bundle of duck tape. I'd tear it in half long wise and put a strip ALL the way around the top of the diaper covering the tabs of course. It worked and in time he forgot. Good news is that one potty skill is already knocked off the list when the time does come!
As for your 3 year old, sorry but she may not be ready yet too. I'd stop everything and try again in a month if it's turning ugly for her. If not just continue with pee pee and just let her take the lead with poo poo when she shows interest.
