Potty Accidents - Cincinnati,OH

My son (4 1/2) has not had any accidents since he was first started using the potty over a year ago. Even then there were very few. However, the last 2-3 weeks have been bad, every few days or so. It is only happening at home. He has not had any at daycare. Nothing in his routine has changed. We have tried talking to him about, without any success. What is going on? How do we stop this?

What can I do next?

You need to rule out a physical change. Sometimes as kids bodies grow their bladder does not grow as fast. Make sure he is not drinking anything after 6pm. Make sure he uses the bathroom before going to bed. If it still happening see the doctor.

Kids have accidents.
At home too.
Maybe he is just more relaxed at home and 'forgets?'
That is common with this age.
They 'think' they can hold their bladder longer... than they actually can.
They do not yet have, perfect "deductive reasoning.'
He is young.

My son is now 5. He sometimes has accidents too. He thinks he can just keep holding it. Especially while playing.
My daughter that age, did too.
Their Teachers said, it happens. Kids get distracted. Not always self-reliant at this age, per their body.

But kids have accidents.
It is childhood.
Even at this age, their bladders/nerve connections/brain connections are still developing. It is not static.

Don't scold him.
Just remind him more.

Or maybe at home he simply is drinking more liquids, than at Daycare. Hence, he is having more accidents at home.

I had to go back to the "are your undies dry" question all day when my daughter did this. Then I would high five her and at the end of the day we would draw a shape on her calendar to say she had a dry day. She's very proud of her calendar and all the colorful pictures on each day. :)
