Potentially Going Back to work...how to Find a Nanny?!

I've been a sahm for the past 5 plus years. LSS, a position at and old company of mine opened up. I would nearly be at level I left and pay I left which is so hard to come by in general and in my field. The one stinky thing is that it is downtown which adds to my commute and nanny needs. We are in need of a nanny from 7am till 630pm. We would like pay 1/2 the hourly rate while kids in school full-day. The nanny can do what she wants but needs to be on call if kids need to be picked up for any reason/etc and of course full pay when kids have off from school/etc. I'm on care.com (only a couple responses), sittercity (none) and enannysource. I'm feeling like I can't make this work. How is this done? How else might I find a nanny? Any tips, tricks, insight, suggestions welcome.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks all. A friend, family member or sahm mom friend is not an option as they don't have the availability 7-7 not to mention to drive my kids around. Plus, I want them in their home environment than someone else's house or facility. I am having some luck on care.com. Just all very stressful and confusing.

I found a nanny on craigslist and it is a nanny share situation. You may want to consider that option. The nanny comes to my house because my son has celiac and needs to eat the food that is here. It is working out wonderfully and I only pay 1/2 of the nanny costs.

We found our nanny in Chicago using Nanny Resource. nannyresource.com.

We loved our nanny and were very sad when we moved to California and lost her - she was reliable, educated, dyanamic, and very caring, and gentle with our son.

Good luck!

Hmm not sure how comfortable I may be with those sites.
Is there anyone you know that could watch your child?
Is there a neighbor SAHM whom you've seen with her kids that you think
you could trust and could pay?
An old laid off co-worker from said company?
Maybe you could rack your brain for someone you know AND trust!
Wishing you luck!

We went through a local agency, told them our needs and they sent a couple people out for us to interview. They had all had background checks, first aid/CPR class certifications, etc. done through the agency, etc., so it was really more of a personality fit. I think we paid the agency something around $200 and it was money well-spent in my opinion. We were very happy with the gal that we ended up going with.

I had similar issue when I started downtown. Her school had an option of aftershool club, that was a great boon to us, not that expensive, but they close at 6:00. I reach and leave eraly from my office. has worked out for close to a year now (will be a year in December).
Ask your kid's friends parents that help as well.

Well, this may not help since you've been at home. But I found our nanny at the daycare my daughter was at. She was in the 'infant' room where my daughter was. I can't remember now how the conversation came up, but I asked her if she'd ever be interested in being a nanny for us. She did and we had her 4 years. Wonderful, amazing woman who really became like another member of the family.

You may ask any friends who have children in good quality centers if they could keep their eyes and ears open and maybe ask around for you.

When I needed a nanny one of my SAHM friend's was also looking for a little extra money. Lucky for me she also has a MS degree in childhood education! She watched our son for a couple years and it was perfect. If it were me I would try asking all SAHM friends to see if you can find someone. One of them might know someone else too.

We found our current morning sitter from Sittercity.com. I searched for her and started communication. We LOVE her though. We found our nanny from there too and she pushed my 4 year old, so we fired her and went back to our in-home daycare provider lady, but then had to hire someone for mornings only. Either way, they were from sittercity.com. Both of my sisters have done the nanny gig too and have gotten all of their jobs from there. Can you Google for an au pair service? Do you have a college close by? My older sister was a nanny in college too and was paid the same as you are talking about.
