I had to take blood pressure meds for several months post delivery. You should be checking it regularly and reporting highs to your dr.
I just delivered 3 days ago and after the delivery when vitals were taken my blood pressure was semi high. It never went down within normal limits and since it was not extremely high I was able to go home and have been monitoring it. It is still high. I'm on strict bed rest and that doesn't seem to be helping any. I know that worrying about it is not helping matters, but I have never had high blood pressure in any pregnancies during or after. In fact it sometimes is on the low side. I would like to know if any one else has had any issues with this and what was done about this if anything. Also, if there is anything else I need to watch out for.
Went back to the midwife today and my blood pressure is still high. Agreed to be put on Medicine and hopefully that will help. Both her and the doctor seem to think that this will be a temp. situation since I have never had high blood pressure or any of the syptoms that go along with this.

You can still develop pregnancy-induced hypertension in the post-partum period!! New research supports this - as it was once thought delivery was the treatment for this conditon.
Please continue to monitor your pressures and report any new symptoms to your ob/gyn immediately! (headaches, blurred vision, nausea, abdominal pain, muscle cramps, etc)
You may need medication - but maybe not.
(I am a maternal/child nurse just for reference)
i had high blood pressure too after the baby and bedrest didnt work either..they ended up putting me on blood pressure medicine and im still on it and my baby is 5 monthsold now
Yes. Watch for any kind of congestion. As I found out, you can get preeclampsia after the baby is born. It can be life threatening.
