hello mammas! so my almost four year old son had what they treated in the hospital as pnemonia. 4 days later we were out of there and doing alot better. i kept him away from school, playdates ext...all week, to build his ummunity. now a little over a week later he has had a fever on and off for the past 2 days ranging from 101.8 to 100.8 (under the arm). he has not been coughing..actually only other symptom is hes been thirsty alot. when we ended up in the hospital before i had taken him to the doctor for vomitting and a fever and didnt even really notice the coughing when the doctor heard his lungs he sent us over there to get x-rays and ended up there halph a week. any thoughts? am i overreacting...and maybe this is some bug he got while his ammunity was low?

What can I do next?

All I can say is that this Fall/Winter season(s) have been very challenging for our house, too. My son is in K, and has picked up every virus that came in from the sick children that came to school.(Moms~will you keep your sick ones home, please!I do!) He'd have a bout of vomiting for 24 hrs, then be fine, and then the next week have diarreha for a few days.Or an awful headcold. Or whatever it mutated into! Yes, I kept him home, obviously! On and off...this whole school year! I feel lucky, as he hasn't had pnemonia! He is home now with the last day(hopefully) of a low grade fever. Head cold with chest congestion. Keeping any eye on him. Praying it will go away! These "gifts" are not welcome!
As far as your son goes, keep him fully hydrated with water/juices...having a fever will wipe out his fluids. I make sure G. is drinking 6 ozs. or so every hour or so. Good Luck and let's pray that this Winter's bugs will go with it! Hello Spring! :)

Call your pediatrician ASAP. Pneumonia isn't something to mess around with and his fever is high enough to suggest something bacterial may be going on. Normally I don't run to the pediatrician for every little thing, but since he just got out of the hospital last week his fever is more than likely related to his illness from then. A phone call couldn't hurt, just to ease your mind anyway. Since you didn't notice the pneumonia at first anyway, this could be infecting him again. Just my opinion, hope this helps.

with him having just gotten over such a major illness--pneumonia is not minor and can cause a great deal of long term damage!--i would call the dr. immediately...there is no harm in having him checked to be sure there isn't anything serious...i had pneumonia about a year ago and didn't have any coughing just fever and then when my fever finally broke i felt like i had trouble breathing...it may just be something viral going around, but then again you won't know until you have the dr. check it out!...his immunity levels will continue to be low for a while, it's a rough time of year...just keep giving plenty of tlc...and mommy's don't overreact--we are our children's biggest advocate--we know when something is not right...that's not overreacting at all!...good luck

Hi... your son shouldnt be running a fever after pneumonia so quickly unless the antibiotics didnt fully get rid of the infection. I would treat the fever..take a temp often and if it lasts for another 24 hours i would return to the doctors office for a checkup.

I'm so glad your son is doing better! You can learn more about having a strong immune system to fight infection, etc. you could read "Whay Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine" by Dr Ray D Strand MD. Good info about how our bodies work and how to keep them healthy
