Hello. I had a d & c last Wednesday and am still feeling dizzy and hav horrible headaches. I have had minimal bleeding and no cramps. I am not feeling particularly hormonal yet. How has anyone else felt a week after their d & c?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for sharing your experiences- it helps to know that what I am feeling is normal after such a sad thing as a miscarriage. I talked to my doctor and she said that what I am experiencing is normal. The headaches are mostly gone but lightheadedness continues. Thanks again mamas!

After a week, I would think that you would be feeling better. Hormonal changes can cause headaches though. After my D & C's I didn't have any symptoms except light bleeding. But everyone is different. Why don't you give your doctor a call, and leave a message with your symptoms, asking if you should be seen?

I had the procedure done 3 times. Don't recall having dizziness or headaches. Mostly minor cramping. Have they given you any medications to take? Is it possible that you are reacting to a medication and not the procedure? If this is not just a flu bug, you might want to run your symptoms by the doctor. Just in case...

I don't know how far along you were, but after my D &C's I felt horrible for about 6 weeks. There wasn't much I could do, but it did eventually go away. Good luck... but if you develop a fever, call the DR immediately because of weird rare complications.

Hi M.:

Here is my story...

I had my second D&C about 3 years ago. I felt fine initially and then a few days later I started to get a headache. The headache got really really bad....to the point where I couldn't lift up my head. I went to the emergency room at Saddleback Memorial because it was the weekend. I told them that I had a D&C and they said that would not cause such pain to my head. They checked me for everything including giving me an expensive MRI and all sorts of blood work. They could not find anything wrong and they gave me some muscle relaxers. This did not help with the pain.

The next day I went to my primary care physcian and she said it was a migrane due to the DNC. She said that the DNC through off all of my hormones. I had never had a migrane before so I didn't know that such pain could exist. She gave me some migrane medicine and within a few hours I was feeling much better. I felt back to normal within 24 hours.

So, yes, you can get bad headaches and feel off after a DNC. However, when I had my first DNC about 6 years ago, I felt fine with no problems.

For me, my two experiences were very different.

I am the mother to two little girls (22 months and 5 years old).

K.

When I had my D & C I don't recall having the symptoms that you describe at all. I may be a bit concerned after a whole week, particularly. I do know that I bled for 14 days straight (after the procedure) and it was heavy bleeding on top of it all!!! (ugh) But that was the only problem that I had from my d & c. I have had migraines for years and years, so if I had a migraine at that time (I don't recall) I would not have associated it with my d & c since I got migraines so often (finally figured out the migraines were from the sweetner, aspartame...after cutting it out of my diet it cut my migraines about 75%). I think I'd ask my doctor just to make sure these are "normal" symptoms...fortunately I didn't experience these. Take care.

You might be having a reaction to the change in hormones or to the medications (especially the pain narcotics or from the anti nausea medication given after surgery). I had some light headedness and nausea after my DNC.
