I live in the North Hollywood area and was wondering if there are any support groups and/ or children activities for children with ADHD?

What can I do next?

Hello, Mommy -

It's a bit out of your way, but there's a program in La Canada that helps such kids with social skills; they meet once a week after school. The program director, Dr. Peter Gero, also maintains a private practice in La Canada for kids with ADHD and their parents. We've done both private practice and social skills camp with him and have benefited greatly.

Non medical support for kids with ADHd exists at TrueHope.com. First nutritional supplementation that is being studied at Harvard and Calgary Behaviour Psyche that is having great results.

I'm starting my daughter with a vision therapist. I went to his seminar about ADHD and how the symptoms of ADHD can be undiagnosed vision problems. Anyway, something to check on. Could help. It won't hurt. We are going after hearing such an amazing success story from a friend whose daughter struggled terribly with reading and homework. She is now an avid reader and on honors roll (Mom would have been happy with C's as would I). That was after 6 months of the therapy. If you're with a therapist for your son maybe they have a recommendation. We got our recommendation from our friend and also my daughter's therapist. While my daughter is not ADD, she has many of the same symptoms. Best of luck! Forgot to say my daughter is 10 1/2.

Hi :)

This one didn't say anything about ADHD, but it is a Mom support place and they do advocacy for homeless women, so I thought it might be a good fit.

There's the San Fernando Valley chapter of CHADD (Children and Adults with ADD - and ADHD) - look here and I'm sure you'll find something.

I as an adult was diagnoise Dyslexia, so I did some research and hook up and went to support groups and found out more about what I had lived with growing up.

Your child should be getting help in the lausd system. If you ask, they I believe need to test your child and then put a program together to assist the child in school.
I also go into the lausd and sell Insurance to all Staff.
Alot of Teacher's assist work one on one with these children in the class room...
