Possible to Switch Schools...

from other mothers in the area i know that have children going to k they send them to ivey ranch , nichols, and bonsal west ... (SP?) .. and those are the top schools in the area, and people get on the list to get into these school.. I"d say ask the school if you can sit in on a class, and compare the school before you go on appearance..

Go to www.greatschools.com. This website will give you the schools overall rating, parent rating, parent opinions, statistics, CST scores, etc. You can even compare the school you want to other schools. Very handy! Enjoy!

I live in Oceanside but am in Vista School District. I have heard great things about Ivey Ranch. My neighbor used to teach there and the school has won many awards. I also know families who go there and are very happy with it. You said you were considering private school. I just transferred my children to Empresa from private school and I am extremely happy. I am bummed I spent so much money on private school when I feel they are getting as good as or better education at Empresa. The teachers are great, the principal is fantastic and they have an awesome music program and teacher. Your child will win with either one of these schools but if you decide you really want to go to Empresa I know it can be done. You'll have to go through the district and jump a hoop or two so don't get discouraged. Your fortunate to have such great schools to choose from. Good luck.

I have friends who go to Ivey Ranch and have done great with the school. From what I have heard they are very active and the test scores are good. You can do an online search and see the test scores from that school and surrounding ones.

You can only do inter city transfers so if you want him to go to Empresa you can with the intercity transfer. But it depends on the school district.

Empresa is a great school I went there. But I would call the school district and ask them what are your options. and also talk to neighbors and see what they say.

My kids are not school age yet so I don't know from experience, but I have heard that Ivey Ranch is one of the top schools in the district, maybe even in the state. I live right up the street from there and we often take our walks past the school. The kids seem very happy at play, though I know what you mean about the playground looking rather bleak. I don't know about transfers, but I know it has been done.

If you do want to go private, my friend sends her son to Vista Christian School (on Melrose) and has been very happy with it, though it is a little far. Sorry I am not more help!

My son has been attending Ivey Ranch since Kindergarten. He is now in third grade (where did that time go.) We absolutely love the school and he has really been getting a great education. We've actually had to move and work really hard at staying in the district. They are a great school. We moved from Pennsylvania five years ago and I dind't know the difference between any of the schools. We are really pleased with the education and he's made some good friends. Hi! Yes, i did the district transfer, i have done it for 3 years now. You are not gusranteed a place every year, so that is the only tough decision to make. I live in Oside and my daughter attends school in Carlsbad. If they have room for enrollment, the child behaves and does well acedemically, then they will most likely approve. You will need to go to the Oceanside office on Mission and request a transfer. It takes to approve, so the earlier the better.
I don't think the best way to judge the school is in its apperance.....but rather the community surrounding it and the students that attend. It is the people that make the school, not the building. I wish i knew more about Ivey Ranch, but i don't! I am sure you will make the best choice for your som! Good luck.

First of all welcome to Oceanside! It's a town that's neighborly and you'll begin to see familiar faces before long. In fact, a few of the teachers live near Ivey. My 2 girls went to Ivey from 1st to 5th. We had an excellent experience there. The school is a Calif Distinguished school and it has won another very high award...I forget what it is but you can check the website. The parent involvement is VERY high in the classrooms, PTA and extracurriculars. I recommend talking with the Ivey PTA prior to making a big decision. It's a close-knit school and well regarded.
