Hi, Moms! I am a mother of a wonderful 1-year-old and two weeks ago, my pregnancy test came out positive. My husband and I were ecstatic to find out that we'll have another child. I thought that my ovulation came early so I should be 6 weeks along. When I went for my ob/gyn appt today, he told me that the baby is too small to be 6 weeks. It looks like it's only 4 weeks. When I told him that my pregnancy test came out positive 2 weeks ago, he said then I must be 6 weeks pregnant but having an abnormal pregnancy. He took blood test and I have to go back in 2 days to see if my hormone level went up. I have been experiencing cramping, which I read online as a sign of abnormal pregnancy... I'm just wondering if there's anyone else out there who experienced something like this and the baby came out normal?

Thanks, moms!

So What Happened?

Hi, Moms!

Thank you for all your support and prayers. I had to get blood tests last week for the hormone level and it only went up 60%. Then yesterday, I went in for ultrasound to see if there's heart beat. And there was! The doctor said we're not out of the woods yet, but he thinks that my ovulation must've been late.

I have to thank you all, because of your responses I was able to think more objectively and be calm knowing that I'm not the only one experiencing such symptoms. Thank you.

i cramped so bad early into my pregnancy (about 5 weeks) that i thought i was getting my period. when it never came i thought i was just late (i have thyroid issues and it's not abnormal for it to be a week late.)
at 10 days my grandmother told me to take a test and i did just to humor her. I couldn't be pregnant, right? i feel like im gonna get my period any day now.
total shock when it came out positive.
i went to the doctor a week later and they saw the gestational sac but no baby. 2 weeks after that (at 8 weeks) i went in again and there he was. very tiny, but there. and he stayed tiny. he was born at barely 6 lbs (18 inches) and he's 6 months old now and almost 14 lbs (24 inches.)
but he's very healthy and normal..

If you ovulated early, and you have no period.. and you tested positive.... you are pregnant. SInce you have been pregnant before, you know you can have the hormones to see it through..... I can think of many stories where Drs. declare a due date weeks later than what the mom thinks would be right...and since those dates are based on is all about the measurements..... you're probably fine. Now that you post this, I seem to remember my first due date was not officially assigned until a few more visits at the Dr..... and his first estimated date was different from what they ended up writing down as the official due date....
I think it's just too early to really declare things within a week or two....
Just hang in there.
Remember those estimates are all based on averages. ...

Not me, but one of my best friends had distinct pregnancy symptoms and a negative test so retested a week later and it was faintly positive. Her cycles were irregular. Her blood tests were positive and then she went for an ultrasound and they couldn't really see anything. She was sent home bleeding for a few days with no information, came back a week later and they saw growth and said she was not as far along as she thought. All along we thought she was a few weeks farther along and she had a perfectly healthy baby girl 3 weeks early.

So many symptoms can mean impending miscarriage or a healthy pregnancy. We also worry a lot more now because we can see the baby with ultrasound, whereas before that was common you would not have had the extra information that might make you nervous. I hope all goes well and I will say a prayer for you and your little baby.

I don't have experience with this but just wanted to tell you pregnancy tests detect pregnancies 11 days after conception if that helps. I wish you the best and hope you let us know how everything is. Good luck!

I realized I was (accidentally) pregnant with my second baby very early--I don't know how I knew, I just woke up one morning and did. I took a test and it was very faintly positive, so I took another one first thing the next morning and it was definitely positive. Went to the doctor and he was surprised I was able to detect it, because the baby was so small it barely showed up on the ultrasound. He advised me to be cautious because it might not be a viable pregnancy (too soon to tell), but sure enough, it stuck, and about 37 weeks later I had a beautiful drug-free birth and delivered a gorgeous baby girl (who is now 2 1/2 and the light of my life).

i went last night for my scan. i have very irregular periods, i know i conceived may 24, but my LMP was may 2. so even though i am 100% sure on conception, he still marked me as 6 w3d, but i am only 5w2d. you can see a heartbeat over 6 weeks, so when the girl looked, she was like "oh, you are just pregnant, like 5 weeks, no heartbeat". now if i wasnt aware that i am irregular, that could have been concerning by looking at my LMP, measuring over a week smaller with no heartbeat. and to top it all off, measuring the gestational sac was 6 weeks, which if i didnt know the date, maybe i would have been concerned with no heartbeat. in these early weeks, even a few days is crucial with measurments.

at 5 w2d all i have is the black gestational sac with a light circle which is the yolk sac. now most 6 1/2w scans you can see something more than just the circle of a yolk sac. do you have a pic? did you see a yolk sac? when did you test in terms of getting your period? was it late or was it before? are you sure your cycle is always exact?

maybe you ovulated later than you thought, even if your periods are 28 days apart, you might ovulate later in your cycle. were you trying? some of those tests can detect pregnancy quite early. my test strips can test as early 7-10 days after ovulation. is it possible you took it earlier than your missed period? that could give you a few days of error. when you are using these "weeks", is it exact? is he saying it measures 3w5d rounding up to 4 w, or is it 4 w3d rounding down. even a few days can make a huge difference.

i dont know if this helps at all, just know that you shouldnt worry just yet. just take it easy and see what happens. and if it does turn out to be worst case scenario, at least you have realized just how much you want another baby so you can focus on that. good luck

It could be mild cramping from implantation, often accompanied by a little bleeding as well. Chin up! I'll say a prayer for you. God Bless.

I don't wont to freak you out because it sounds like you are very excited to be pregnant. However about a year and a half ago I got pregnant, and I was about 4 weeks or so, (I new early). I did have lite cramping which I had with my first pregnancy (my son), so I didn't think much of it, I went to the doctor at about 5 weeks and he wanted to do an emergency ultrasound (I had lite spoting) and it turned out that the baby was only about half the size it should have been at that time the egg was the right size but the fetis wasn't. About two weeks later I was at work (lite duty only) and started cramping harder, and harder went to the bath and I had started spotting again. Before I got to the hospital I misscarried! If you're that far along you will know if you're misscarrying, its not a normal cramp not even close...I don't say this to scare you, because with my first son alot of the same things happened and he was born very health and I even had a lot of complications with him at birth!

I have gone through this. I'm so sorry, this is such a stressful time. If you are not bleeding or spotting, rest a lot, put your feet up, and ask your Dr about progesterone cream. Stressing about it can cause cramps too.See what the hormone levels are and ask about the cream as soon as possible. I had both normal deliveries and miscarriages with this same problem. Its too soon to tell, just do what you can and try to relax.Do you have anyone to help with your 1 yr old? You really need to rest. Wishing you all the best.

I had similar situation with my second. Positive prego test and I thought I was fairly far along and had just missed the signs. Went in to have ultrasound at what I thought would have been 6.5 weeks or so (to see the heartbeat) and the doctor saw nothing. A week or 2 later, still nothing. HCG levels were reading like I was pregnant but no picture on the ultrasound.

The Dr. believed I had an ectopic pregnancy, though. Saddened me to no end.

HOWEVER, turns out that I just caught the pregnancy so early (at 2 weeks post-conception) that it was way too soon to see anything on the ultrasound.

Agonizing couple of weeks but eventually, saw the baby on ultrasound and now she is a healthy 20-month old!
