A big rash for one. Constant itching, odor, just like any woman would get when she doesn't wipe. I'm not aware of any infections internally but I know externally, can cause the above to happen. Good luck!

Urine itself is sterile, it is the vagina which is covered in bacteria, so once the urine touches the vagina it becomes contaminated. Truthfully, as long as she is geting bathed daily, and has her panties changed daily. She should not develop any yeast infections. She coould possibly experience symptoms similar to diaper rash, due to still being wet.

My 6 year old daughter had this problem a lot last year. She got about 3 urinary tract infections within a year and her doctor said it was a result of her not wiping right, not drinking enough water, and waiting until the last minute to go. There were a couple of times that she was having blood in her urine and that's a sign of having an infection also. She was able to give her an antibiotic to get rid of the infection, but it took a couple of days to get rid of and the it was painful for her to go to the bathroom because of the burning irritation that comes with the infection. I constantly have to remind her that she needs to go when she needs to go, because she still has a habit of holding it.

vaginitis. irritation of the vaginal tissue from staying wet. if she is healthy, not likely to be a bacterial infection, as someone mentioned, urine of a healthy person does not contain bacteria.

I teach swim lessons. In hot humid weather like this, I tell the parents the kids have to get home and get out of wet suits after the lesson.

Might try having her run around in a little dress or light cotton shorts in the house ONLY (obviously) without panties for a while so she can "air" out.

Might sound weird, but that's why a lot of high school/ college female athletes do all their locker room stuff and primping half naked. (in case you ever wondered.) Gotta get that area some dry time without clothing on.

these are some possibilities...maybe not the most likely to occur, but just possible.

Urinary tract infection, yeast infection , and staph infection...are all possibilities...not all likely but just possibilities...they can be more likely if the child is more prone to the back to front wipe. rather than the front to back

Hi A.,
it is possible for little girls (and is usual) for them to get urinary infections by not cleaning properly in that area. They don;t always wipe good when they pee at that age but be very sure she is clean when she bathes.
If you think she has some infection look for signals- the area will be very red and puffy....look for circles under the eyes, look for puffy fingers signaling fluid buildup- she may also complain of a "tummy ache" or tell you her "bottom hurts" These are a few signs to alert you that something might be going on with her.
If none of these symptons occur then just be sure she is clean when bathing.
good luck and blessings

I don't know if this will work, but here is a link from babycenter.com that is pretty good. If it does't work to cut and paste it you can try going to babycenter.com and searching "vaginal itch in children" and look for the symptom guide link that way.

It is possible to develop a bladder infection and even a kidney infection if the bladder infection goes unnoticed or untreated. I would think that it would be more likely if she were not wiping well after a bowel movement but it is possible. Is she showing signs of infection or having symptoms you would like to identify? Fever, itching, burning when she urinates, an odor? Anything like that? If you are concerned, it may be time to have her see her doctor. Antibiotics will clear up a UTI (urinary tract infection) or other infections but her doctor will need to check her out and make sure that is what is going on.

Yeast infections for sure in addition to vaginal itch. My stepdaughter did not keep good hygiene habits and in consequence suffered of yeast infections and uncontrolable vaginal itch.
